Played with the TV settings last night. Turning all of the noise-reducing options to their highest setting turned the PS1 game from something that looked like a half-digested bad jpeg of a pixellated mess into just a plain pixellated mess.
It now looks pretty much as it did the first time I played it over ten years ago, only the pixels are very sharp and distinct, instead of the slight blending allowed by fuzzy TVs. It feels a lot like I'm playing with a magical counted cross-stitch canvas.
As soon as Tir stepped into the Great Forest, Nooshie started purring like crazy. The Great Forest BGM is a recording of bird song, no music. I think Noosh would have been happy if I just let the game sit there and play that all night.
