Yay. Andrea and I had a fantastic holiday in Italy. All the connections went okay and the hostels were nice (the first turned out to be a three-star hotel and the other, while I dubbed it the "hippie hostel," was acceptable). We made it to Pisa and Padua as well as Florence and Venice, which was awesome. And the weather was good. And we made it back to Leicester safely. And we had a lot of fun. It's just good all around and I'm incredibly grateful.
Plus! I found the glasses that you can push over and they'll stand back up again. One of my biggest regrets on leaving Venice last year was that I didn't buy one of these, or steal one from the restaurant. I not only found them again, but I found them in a supermarket, so I bought three for only €3. And now I shall have something to distract me when I'm writing my last essay.
I was very annoyed by the number of Americans I encountered on the trip. American accents bug the crap out of me, which I realize is sort of a pretentious thing to say, but it's true. I'm really dreading coming back now. But perhaps it will be better if it's not spoiled California valley girls. Or loud people. Or whinging brats. Good grief, I understand why Europeans hate us.
But to end on a good note, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmingly grateful on the trip, especially when I was in Florence. When I left Florence last year I didn't think there was a chance in hell I'd be back, much less in eleven months. It makes me very thankful.
