Riding with us

Dec 14, 2008 01:40

I hope it's not irreverent of me to tell this story, but the corner of my mouth did rise.

I finally got in touch with my dad. Last time I spoke to him he delivered the news of my mother's passing. It was really good to chat and visit with him after all this time which was only a week but seemed like a month. Tenderly he told me mom rides with him in the car. I was thinking how sweet it was that he feels her near, so I mentioned it to him. He said that actually she is riding with him in the car, she's currently in the trunk. I told him to be sure to go over railroad tracks and speed bumps slowly so as not to slosh her(ashes) around too much.
I know she's 'riding' or watching over us either way.

We miss mom a lot.

-I'm still getting things sorted out but I'm pretty sure I'm comming home at the end of the contract. I'm aching to be with my family, in particular my dad.

-Depending on how the pottery studio situation will be working out in Higashi Sanjo, I'm looking toward getting a vace made for my mom.

-My dad is on the hunt for some really nice wood. He's planning and designing a double compartment wood box for both he and my mom's remains. By the time I get home I'll be able to help him build it. I'm really looking forward to spending time in the wood shop with my dad. Plus I get to learn how to use the router and a little review on the rest. We're also going to be busy making some end tables for my cousin and his new wife, Tomo (from Japan/Can't wait to meet her)

-I haven't a clue what I want to do with my life. All I know is I'm happy when I'm making something with my hands.

-Also my mom's wish was to have compiled in a book some of the geneological stories that my Grandpa (her dad) had recorded by tape about the war and his young family. I'm really excited to work with my sisters on the project. Aubrey (my niece-7) and I will be working on the illustrations. WW2 buffs and savies get ready to help me with reference!

-I had a great Saturday! It was so fun to get out and play with friends. I went up to Niigata to see Ellen (for a lovely chat) and James too. We did some brousing and had a nice Thai lunch. Then for desert we ate taiyaki-sp? Those fish (pancake batter-esq) with the filling. (ex: anko, creme, chocolate creme, cheese)They where sooooo good, absolutely incredible!!! I can't believe that was my first time of having them here! Then I rode home and picked up a few groceries and headed to Natasha's for a girl's night with her and Ashley (another JET from south of us) We had dinner together and watched Dirty Dancing, it was such a good time. Then we finished it at around 11:45 so we drove back to "Movie 1" (in pajamas) and exchanged Dirty Dancing for Strictly Ballroom (squeeels with Gally..."Show me your pasa doble!" We had such a blast. I just felt like I was with old friends or something. It was such a nice break.

-WOOO!!! Just one more week and holiday begins!
