Election Fatigue

Oct 29, 2016 19:54

I am tired of this upcoming election. As I write this, there are ten days left for the 2016 elections. And I wish I could emigrate to the United Federation of Planets or The Culture.

There are several reason I hate this election. Most of them are because I can not escape it, even for a few minutes. As any readers might know, I am not able to escape television most of the time. And recently, MSNBC has replaced Bravo as the network of choice. For a news channel, that channel seems to be focused only on the election, and on one candidate in particular. I can't get away from it, even in my sleep. Most of the conversations I have are about politics; once I would have enjoyed it, but this has been going on for nearly two years.

Then there are the two candidates. I don't like Hillary Clinton; I feel she is too close to Wall Street, and too tied to the status quo. Her Republican rival is an unspeakable horror, a candidate whose views are in their own ways as vile as those of those of John W. Davis, an opponent of women's suffrage, Federal child-labor laws, the Truman Administration's civil rights laws, and anti-lynching laws.

If I voted with my heart and for my principles, I would vote for the Green Party candidate Jill Stein. But my mind and my pragmatism have me convinced to vote for Clinton. The idea of a Donald Trump (or is it Randall Flagg aka Nyarlathotep?) Presidency is terrifying. He is grossly unqualified and corrupt. He owes lots of money Chinese, Saudi, German, and other nation's banks as well as to Russian oligarchs.

Bad choices and no respite from the noise are really hurting my mood. I will vote early and be done with it. And maybe I can hear about something other than politics.
