so, here's that Double Fic that I talked about posting last night. I would have posted it last night but I nearly let my head fall into the keyboard last night, so I decided to wait until I was more coherent.
Beware, it's rather long - it's actually been mostly written for a week but the ending was giving me a lot of trouble. I would normally wait to post those and not somewhat hurridly between classes, but we're going to fly down to Florida for a wedding that happens tomorrow, so I'm not going to have much, if any time at my computer after the 2nd class.

Summary: Philip is tired of them arguing when he’s trying to read, so he points out what is obvious to him.
Shotaro sat behind his desk, hands poised above his trusty typewriter, but not actually using it. He was looking at the last words he had typed up the conclusion of his last case, but since his services had not been required since then, he had nothing to write about.
He was so lost in his thoughts that when he looked to the side and saw Akiko’s face mere inches from his, he had to stop himself from jumping. “What do you want, Akiko?” he asked, hoping it wasn’t another ridiculous comment.
“Well, I wanted to ask if you think of yourself as such a good detective, than why do you keep ordering all these detective novels?!” Her voice rose dangerously high at the end of the sentence and she punctuated the question by throwing 2 of said novels at the floor.
Shotaro winced, he had ordered some more recently, but he had obviously been absorbed in something else when the mail carrier came and instead had foolishly let Akiko accept them, even though he knew it wouldn’t end well. “They are part of my job as a detective. Even though I am hard-boiled, it never hurts to learn from the great detectives. What’s your problem with it anyway, Akiko?”
“I wouldn’t really care about your stupid novels even if you didn’t pay for them with the agency’s money!!” She spit out, her teeth clenched, as if she was restraining herself. “By the way, you can’t learn anything from these novels anyway! You’re only a half-boiled detective!” She finished, knowing it would set him off.
“What did you say?!” Shotaro exclaimed, pushing away from his desk and pushing her slightly away from him.
“You heard me!” Akiko replied fiercely, the look in her eyes daring him to do something. “Or do I need to say it again? Half-boiled detective…” she said maliciously and then flouncing off before he could fully react.
“Akiko! Get back here! We’re not finished!” He almost yelled, but forced himself to think about other things. “Oy, Philip!” He called out to the boy, who was as always absorbed in some book. “What are you reading about today?” He asked, leaning over Philip’s left shoulder and doing his best to ignore Akiko, who had settled down on the other side of Philip.
“Reading about Omiai,” Philip stated, barely looking up from his book.
“Why are you doing that?” Akiko asked Philip. “Planning to have one for yourself?”
“No way,” Philip said, temporally closing the book and looking at Akiko. “I was reading one of Shotaro’s detective novels,” ignoring the “What?” that came out of Shotaro’s mouth at this fact, since he didn’t think Philip had any interest in that kind of stuff. “One of the cases involved a woman who was going through the omiai process and it sounded a little interesting, so I wanted to learn more about it. Maybe you should try it yourself, Akiko?” He asked innocently.
“Akiko? An arranged marriage? First we’d have to get someone to agree to marry her,” Shotaro huffed.
“I’ll let you know I’ve had my fair share of boyfriends, I’m just not ready for marriage yet.” Akiko replied
“Well then, why don’t we ever see any of these guys?” He asked, barely aware of a slight jealous tone somehow coming through his voice.
Akiko moved up off the couch to within inches of Shotaro’s face, all the while glaring at him. “Well, mainly because I don’t want to have to explain why I let a half-boiled detective rent a room!” She replied.
“For the last time, I’m not half-boiled!” Shotaro very nearly shouted this; aware that this felt familiar, since they had been doing it no more than 5 minutes ago.
Akiko’s eyes glinted dangerously and Shotaro knew that look, it meant she had something sinister planned, or she was about to whack him with that damned slipper of hers. “Well, maybe I don’t have to look very far…I could always ask Philip,” she said quietly and thankfully for both of them, Philip didn’t hear what she had said. “For sure, he’d be a better husband then someone like you!” She yelled, pulling her head away and looking ready to storm out of the room. “Later, Philip-kun!” she said, not bothering to acknowledge Shotaro.
As she started walking away, the full impact of her words hit Shotaro. It wasn’t so much that she thought of Philip as a better husband then him, but that she had said he wouldn’t be a good husband. ‘At least I’d be able to make money to support us; Philip doesn’t even have or seem to want a proper job! he thought to himself.
“Wait!” Philip called out suddenly, and Akiko turned around and walked back to Philip, still pointedly ignoring Shotaro. “You two are just like a bunch of children, you know? Always arguing and if I didn’t know better, I’d hazard a guess you guys really like each other.” He finished, looking somewhat peeved, a look which rarely crossed Philip’s face.
At these words, Akiko’s jaw opened and her eyes bulged slightly. “I want to kiss him?! Yeah right! Not if he was the last man in Fuuto!” She turned to leave again and before Shotaro could fully register what he was doing, he reached out, grabbed her arm, yanked her back so she was inches away from him and his lips practically crashed onto hers, as if suffering from some insatiable urge for physical contact.
Needless to say, Akiko was a bit shocked at this turn of actions. She was wondering for one, what in heck’s name had possessed him to do such a thing! She thought they hated each other - although by the way he was currently kissing her, she would have to reexamine her thought process. She reached into her ever-present bag to give Shotaro a good whack with her slipper, but when she went to bring it down on his head, she realized she in fact, had nothing grasped in her hand.
Unbeknownst to her, Philip had stealthy reached into her bag beforehand and removed the slipper that she was fond of hitting people with. He had foreseen something like this happening and had taken certain precautions.
As he pulled away after a little longer, Shotaro kept his eyes glued to Akiko’s, checking them for any sign of emotion and was startled to see her eyes had softened, not showing anger, but something else.
However, this didn’t last long as Akiko pulled away quickly, as if searching for her slipper because she felt the need to hit something. However, as she looked around the room, she couldn’t seem to find it.
“It’s no use looking for it, you know,” Philip said, answering her unasked question. I locked it up in secret in the laboratory earlier today.
“B-But” Akiko spluttered. She then turned her gaze back to Shotaro, who at this point, had no idea what to expect from the seemingly furious girl. “Why did you kiss me like that?” She asked, eyes looking at him pleadingly.
“Isn’t it obvious? He has feelings for you, though he’s too stubborn to ever admit that himself.” Philip answered, staring at her in disbelief.
Akiko nodded, but she hadn’t turned to look at Philip, as she noticed the sheepish expression come over Shotaro’s face when Philip made his statement. “Is this true, Shotaro?” she asked him quietly.
Leaning in closer and looking deep into her eyes once again, Shotaro nodded silently. “It’s true,” he whispered. “I really do like you, Akiko,” he finished, mentally preparing himself as he wasn’t sure how she’d react.
He was pleasantly surprised when a soft smile spread across her face and she smiled at him.
“Well, that’s good news, since I really like you too, Shotaro,” she answered, never taking her eyes away from hers. The way he smiled showed her that he was genuinely happy at her words. She then leaned up to his body and softly touched her lips to his, a real contrast from when he had kissed her.
Shotaro leaned down and laced his hands around her waist, pulling her body flush up against his. This time, the kiss was almost like a confirmation of long-buried feelings, yet was more passionate than he had ever thought possible.
As Philip looked up at the two, who were now making out as if they had forgotten he was there, he thought Finally. No more dodging their true feelings anymore.
“Sweet quiet, now I can finish my reading” He said aloud, knowing they were too wrapped up in each other to notice him. ‘At least until they start arguing again,’ He thought to himself, sitting down to finish his book, a slight smile spreading across his face.
Hope you enjoyed it! Comments are greatly appreciated :D
