Summary: Shido wants. Ban owns.

“I'm sorry, Shido-nii...”

He hated those words. He hated the apologies, but more than anything he hated the endearment.

Shido-nii.

Big brother. That was what Ginji thought of him. Nothing more, nothing less.

If I could just erase Midou from your mind.

He tightened his hold on the smaller man and forcefully kissed him, his tongue demanding entrance. To his surprise Ginji's lips obediently parted allowing him in.

His mouth was wonderfully sweet and warm. Shido reveled in sensations he had dreamed about for years. Big, calloused hands shaking with excitement grabbed fistfuls of fabric and ripped them apart, seeking the soft white skin underneath. The two men fell to the grass, ignoring the small noises - a ruffling of feathers, a low growl, paws stepping away; the Beastmaster's subjects were making way for their lord to have some privacy. Shido pressed small kisses along Ginji's neck, enjoying his unique scent - lighter than most men's, with a strange, metallic tang. When he raised his head to see his beloved's face, though, it felt like being thrown into a cold shower.

Lying boneless and unresisting, Ginji smiled the saddest of smiles as he faced his friend's hungry stare. Shido frowned at the sight.

“What,” he spat, annoyed, “if you can't handle it why don't you knock me out and run back to Midou?”

“I'm sorry I made you suffer,” Ginji raised a hand to caress the older man's cheek but stopped mid way, wavered, then fell to rest on Shido's shoulder. “One day you told me you were dead to your people...”

“Heh, no one will weep the day that I die,” he had said it with a crooked smile, like it was some kind of bad joke. Ginji hadn't laughed, though.

“I'll weep!” Ginji's blurting had surprised himself as much as his friend. And then, blushing slightly, the Lightning Emperor added, “If it matters to you, that is...”

Shido winced, as if the memories physically pained him. He had been so close, that day. One more word, or maybe just an inviting hand and Ginji would have been his. What a fool he had been during his time with the Volts - always holding back, always hiding his desire, for Ginji was the Raitei, their leader, and could not belong to anyone. All those years of restraint, and in the end Lightning Emperor was snatched from his hands by an egotistical, selfish, despicable Snake Bastard!

“... and in attempting to comfort you, I made you believe I wanted more than your friendship...” Ginji continued, his voice soft and filled with regret, “... it was not my intention to deceive you, Onii...”

“But you did.” the words were dry and hard and unrelenting and for once Shido didn't try to keep his resentment in check for the other's sake. He winced when Ginji’s lips lightly touched his forehead - such chastity hurt him more deeply than any blow the Raitei could summon.

“And I’m sorry for that, Onii.”

His skin crawled at the sound of the hated endearment.

I’m not your brother, dammit!

“That Snake Bastard is taking advantage of you and you don’t realize it,” the Beastmaster’s powerful hands squeezed his friend’s arms with bruising force, “but I’m going to make you see! He doesn’t deserve you, hells, I love you more, I’ll show you how much even if I have to…”

“Even if you have to force me?”

“I don’t see you resisting.”

Brown eyes, impossibly innocent and trustful, stared at Shido with unwavering faith. It never failed to amaze him, that facet of Ginji that Raitei rarely allowed to surface in the old times: so vulnerable, so open, and oddly enticing.

What came from those smiling lips, though, was impregnated by the former Lightning Lord’s power and sadness.

“That’s because I know you all too well. You would never do anything against me.”

The Beastmaster sighed in exasperation. What to do when someone refuses to see anything but the better part of you?

You were the Raitei, ruler of Mugenjou. Our enemies cowered just by hearing your name. When you stood in front of us glowing with energy, your eyes dazzling in fury, I needed all my strength just to keep myself from falling on my knees, overwhelmed by your power.

You were a God.

And then the Snake Bastard came, played havoc all over our territory, and when he left, you followed him like a lost puppy.

He took you away from us. He took everything from me.

He destroyed the Volts. He destroyed me.

I hate him.

If only I could force Midou out of your life.

But I can’t. And knowing this makes me hate him all the more.

Darn Snake Bastard. He doesn’t even know how lucky he is.

All of the things he wanted to say and do hung suspended in the air between them, frozen. Shido could only laugh self-depreciatingly and shake his head.

Ban put out his last cigarette with an irritated curse. At his feet, a dozen stubs gave clue of how impatiently he had been waiting. Behind him, the ever faithful Ladybug was for once parked legally and free from any risk of being towed.

“Ban-chan!”

Running happily toward his partner, Ginji glomped him with exuberance. Ban groaned but allowed the other to squeeze him into a bear hug.

“What took you so long?” the Jagan Master eyed what was left of Ginji’s T-shirt barely hidden by his vest, “What the hell happened?”

“Ehehehe…” Ginji smiled sheepishly, “… Shido was in a bad mood, that’s all.”

There was a moment of uncomfortable silence, in which Ban debated whether to go after Monkey Trainer and Snakebite him for whatever he’d done to Ginji, or hit Ginji in the head for his dreadful taste in friends.

He decided on the latter.

“Owww, that hurt!” Ginji pouted, “Ban-chan, you’re mean! Why did you…”

But he couldn’t finish the sentence since Ban’s lips covered his in a hot, ferocious, possessive kiss.

One blue eye cracked open as the Jagan Master sensed Shido’s presence somewhere behind the living fences of Madoka’s house. Without breaking the kiss he urged his partner into the Ladybug as if trying to hide a treasure.

Ginji’s mine, Monkey Trainer. You had your chance years ago, when he was Raitei.

Eyes glowing in unchecked envy, Shido snorted, hands balling into fists. Through the cracks in the thick foliage he could see, even from considerable distance, the knowing smirk in that hateful face.

You win, Snake Bastard. For now.
