Thankful Thursday Authorial Intrusion Mashup!

Jun 10, 2010 06:05

I’m delighted to welcome Heidi Kling to Authorial Intrusion today … especially since today is the long, long, LONG-awaited release day for her beautiful YA novel, SEA.

Synopsis:
Haunted by recurring nightmares since her mother's accidental disappearance over the Indian Ocean three years before, fifteen-year-old California girl Sienna "Sea" Jones reluctantly travels with her father's volunteer team to six months post-tsunami Indonesia. During her stay at the orphanage, she meets scarred and soulful Deni, who is more like Sea than anyone she has ever met.

She knows they can't be together, so why can't she stay away from him? And what about her old-best-friend-turned-suddenly-hot Spider who may or may not be waiting for her back home? And why is her psychiatrist father so secretive about her mother's plane crash? The farther she gets from home, the closer she comes to the truth. And Sea's real adventure begins.

My blurb:
From the first page of SEA, the reader is plunged into a world of love, loss, and hope. The heat between Sienna and Deni is mirrored in the steamy exotic setting of Indonesia. Once I started reading, I couldn’t put this book down. Sienna is conflicted and compassionate … all too willing to follow Deni anywhere. I truly loved this book and can't wait to recommend it to all the teenagers I know.

Thai food or Chinese?
Thai. I love chicken satay and peanut sauce. Also, yellow curry chicken. (I'm suddenly ravenous!)

Advice for writers in 5 words or less.
Have faith in yourself.

What are you reading right now?
I just finished Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

In writing, are you a plotter or a plunger?
A bit of both. I tend to plunge but plunging is something you have to do when your toilet overflows. Sadly a lot of my plunging has the same foul odor...so I try to plot now. ;-)

What’s the last song you listened to?
"Hey There Delilah" in the car. It's been a magic day and when magic days happen that song pops on the radio, and you know the sun shines, and no one shakes their fist at me on the road and I get emails from L.K. Madigan asking me to be on her blog. :)

If you couldn’t write in your current genre, what would you write?
I'm a genre hopper already because I'm writing a fantasy trilogy after a contemporary novel, just like my idol, L.K. Madigan. Have you met her? Yeah, she's a GIRL. You didn't know either? The whole L.K. thing - that threw you off? Me too. I was guessing Leonard Kirk Madigan. You too? NO WAY. Anyway, since you asked, I'd write a cowboy romance or a Great American Novel. I may do both of those things anyway.

Dogs or cats?
Dogs. Hands down. I know a lot of people like cats but they creep me out because they seem smarter than me.

Favorite movie snack?
Popcorn no butter.

What’s your cure for the blues?
My kids. Hands down.

Ocean or lake?
My book is called SEA. How can I choose lake?

First car?
Orange Cherokee Chief Jeep. It was so bada$$. That thing could hop curbs like nobody's business.

Spring or fall?
Spring because it represents hope and new life. I enjoy fall but you know it's really just the kiss of death wrapped up in pretty colors and waiting to throw a snowball on you.

Pick three words to go on your tombstone.
Heidi Was Rad. No judging.

Your five favorite movies.
Romeo and Juliet, Before Sunrise, Before Sunset, Shakespeare in Love, Wonder Boys.

If you were a crayon, what color would you be?
Cerulean.

Early bird or night owl?
I do my best work in the morning and at night so both? Afternoons are my draggiest time.

Rain or sun?
Is this a trick question? SUN of course.

Tattoos?
Yes, please. Thank you.

Beach or mountains?
Oh, Lisa. Now you're just teasing me.

Thanks for indulging our curiosity, Heidi, and HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

authorial intrusion, thankful thursday
