the 100-day Lj plan

Dec 12, 2007 19:53

Lj has a 100-day plan, which mentions that in the next 90 days (from today; the post's date was 12/02/2007) the adult-content system will be improved. this was posted in lj_2008 some time back, so i'm not sure how many of us caught this.

the plan also lists several other feature improvements, including establishing a "clear set of policy guidelines". ( Read more... )

brad hates being treated as the Lord God of Livejournal To Whom All Prayers Should Be Addressed. If you read his journal, you find that he really doesn't care about a lot of this stuff and wishes people would stop asking him about it. I suggest writing an open letter to the entire advisory board instead.

it's more of a courtship to basically have the same sort of relationship as we have with marta; our voices will be heard by someone. it may/may not be passed on but at least we tried.

also, if brad didn't want to be involved, he should not have joined the Lj advisory board that he mentioned. it may be out of his hands, but it is worth a shot--it's no more worthless a try than it is to talk to marta or any of the other staff members. (:

I second this. I feel strongly that any open letter in the community should address all members of the advisory board. I believe we are actually more likely to find an ally outside of brad for just the reason listed above.

And that's the other question: is this a personal letter? If so, will each member post their own open letter to LJ or would it be better as being from the community?

As a personal letter, do whatever you want.

a personal letter from all of us (meaning, anyone who wants to chime in).

Then I would like to ask that you target the entire board, bot just brad.

I agree with this comment. It should be addressed to the entire board.

@ crazykimmy and worldserpent: i really do believe that we need to take on one staff member at a time. we've been able to get on good terms with marta, and i don't want to jump too far ahead. divide and conquer, right?

i think we need a little more time until we present our case to the staff as a whole. so far, they've been ignoring us. if we contact individual staff members, even if it seems farfetched, i think it will get us farther. once we've been able to gain a few sympathetic staff ears, then i say we make a real presentation of our concerns.

unless you think going straight to the board would do us any differently? i just don't see it working, since we've tried time and time again to get their attention and they just continue to do what they're doing.

What do you mean "divide and conquer?" These people are all employees of the same company. They have different roles. Marta's job, correct me if I'm wrong, is to interact with the public, and bring their concerns to the higher ups and other staff members, which is why she posts so much. I just don't see why it would make much of a difference, especially because it's not the job of some staff members to deal with complaints about policy ( ... )

I think your analysis is overly political for the given situation and fails to address the concerns that other people have shown.

I agree with the others who say that brad is not overly involved lately.

I think that if you want some help working on a coherent set of ideas, you should use this community for that purpose. Then do something to get the final letter/entry read by as many members of the board as possible.

I think that you need to start thinking corporately. In the corporate world, this is bad form. You cc everyone, and let everyone know what you're on about. You may craft individual appeals to go along with the direct appeal, but not necessarily. Why?

This is business, not personal. And approaching each person separately makes you seem less professional and less organized. It makes it clear it is personal for you and you have an agenda outside of theirs which is much more important to you. (Something that will get you ignored quickly as an outsider and a threat or a looney if you seem harmless enough ( ... )

I really agree with this. I personally feel brad's presence is more symbolic than anything. There's nothing which suggests that he has any interests in this or even is opposed to the policies 6A has undertaken. Perhaps we need to find out what really is the structure of things and what is the best leverage point. I agree with addressing the letter to the entire board and if that cannot be done then let us make sure that brad is the most effective person to address it to.
