I've been doing a combination clean-my-room/sort-out-some-crap-for-the-next-garage-sale. This is the fourth or fifth effort to do so - we've had a number of garage sales already this summer. Last time I found $80 tucked away in an old backpack, which I used for a trip to Tacoma in 2008.
Today I found something just as interesting, but less useful:
300 (cash) and 8 (coin) Francs (Belgium)
200 (cash) and 30.20 (coin) Francs (France)
57 pfennig (coin) (Germany)
sixpence (coin) (UK)
as well as $1.88 (US), which went straight into my wallet.
Of the foreign currency, only the sixpence is still usable - Belgium, France, and Germany all use the Euro now; in fact, I think they started using it the year after I was abroad.
So I guess they're all collector's items now? Yay me?
ETA: The currency exchange rate calculator I use online still has historical exchange rates for the obsolete currency; all together, it's about the equivalent of $55 US.
