Alternatives to today's taxation

I just posted a link to this on SOLO.

I like the idea of eliminating the income tax, replacing it with a flat use tax.  It'll encourage people to earn, but it won't so much discourage them from spending.  And it's a lot closer to a voluntary system then forcible, coercive income taxation is.

Don't know how realistic it is to think it'll pass.
