I've been working my way steadily through Kaufmann's Existentialism from Dostoevsky through Sarte, having finally completed Jaspers, stormed through Heidegger (who I'm now reading some secondary material on, because, well, wtf?!!), and am now kicking back with Sartre towards the end of the book. It's amazing stuff. A lot of good ideas, a lot of terrible ideas, a lot of strong arguments and analyses and a lot of absurd unsubstantiated theories. I don't know if I understand existentialism now much more than when I began (with Kierkegaard and Nietzsche and Dostoevsky and Kafka), but I do get something of the gist of it, and it certainly arouses my interest far more than most English-speaking philosophers of that time (Dewey, Russell, Moore, Whitehead, *yawn*, *snore*, ......). I have all sorts of paper ideas in my head now. God, I've gotta get to grad school.
