So I finished Breakfast of Champions a few days ago. Yeah. About that. I do recommend it, with several qualifications. It was certainly entertaining, amusing, and creative, in its own narcissistically absurd way. If you demand a cohesive, tightly-plotted story with great character depth, that holds to its own self-contained universe and allows you to be sucked into it to experience it as full reality... look elsewhere. To call this book meta-literary would be a grotesque understatement. Yet it is a novel, and it does entertain, and even provokes a few thoughts about the nature of fiction and the ever-so-thin line between reality and imagination. So in that, I imagine, Vonnegut accomplishes his aim. By all means, enjoy.
Now I'm in the middle of Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. And I though Vonnegut and Kafka were disjointed. Ha!
