Actually, I've been back for about a week but without anything terribly interesting to say. In fact, today was the first time I've been outside the house since church on Sunday. (A friend and I went back to our high school to see teachers and say hi/bye. It was fun.)
Anyway, being as it's Friday, I thought I'd jump back in with some comments on tonight's Stargates!
Uninvited
I liked the use of the cabin and the idea of a team getaway. General Landry's insistence on being friendly was really sweet, but kind of odd...I would think a general would tend to want to keep at least a little distance between himself and his command to maintain good command structure, but whatever. Landry kicked butt in this ep. (The duck-watching thing was sooo funny, although I thought it made Landry seem a little silly. Which was unfortunate, because he's such a nice guy! I love him more and more every episode.)
Vala's "expertise" in hunting was cool, if again a bit odd. I was very much expecting her to be lying about that.
I liked the plot, too, and the "villain" -- even if it was a bit "pig-lizard" when we finally got to see it. The message of "we kinda screw up whatever used to work when we try to use it for ourselves" was poignant and not overdone. I liked it.
LOVED the poker game at the end. (Am I the only one who's wondering if we're going to see Sheppard playing pool or McKay in an elevator now? Hee.) I loved Sam's "I won? Ha! I was totally bluffing!" and Vala's overstudied use of poker lingo. And Teal'c! "That is obvious." It was such an awesome team moment.
Overall, a very good episode.
Progeny
Okay, well, I took a lot of notes on this ep so I'll try to consolidate them into something readable.
Originally, I thought it was going to be a money-saving ep with the duplicate set, but I realized that it wasn't. Really cool sets, models, effect, explosions, etc. Nice.
The whole Replicator thing was totally creepy. The fact that the Ancients created them separately of Reese is pretty scary, and the way they took the same course is really scary. LOVE the connection back to "Hot Zone". The episode was a little bit similar to "Unnatural Selection" but different enough to be interesting. Although, I'm almost positive Niam's going to turn up in a later season being mad about being "betrayed" and try to kill them...maybe even make a Repli-Weir?
It was a very scary episode, particularly the sequence where they were in Sheppard's mind and the city was destroyed. That was heart-wrenching, powerful stuff. I was torn between crying and hiding behind the couch.
Rodney, of course, was simply wonderful. Some great lines in there: "Ancient-y?" "Why don't I just go on these missions by myself?" "Seven minutes, thirty-one seconds, all right?...It was an arbitrary number!" His concern for Elizabeth was completely endearing (both before she went on the little trip with Niam and after Niam choked her), as was his total surprise when Ronon, Teyla, and Sheppard went commando all of a sudden -- twice! And, of course, he saves the day with his brilliance. (I love how they so completely trust him as to take his word for the numbers, even when he swore they were arbitrary. As well as look to him to solve any problem remotely scientific.)
It says a lot that my main complaint with this ep was the now-overused stock shot of night!Atlantis toward the end. That and I think Elizabeth's hair changed like three times throughout the episode (though I could be wrong; I wasn't really paying attention).
Great episode. And we haven't seen the last of those...um...Pegasus Replicators. Ascerins? Whatever.
