A reason why #1is liked more than #2 and #3

I've recently read The matrix and philosophy: welcome to the desert of the real (ISBN 0-8126-9502-X), a collection of essays about the film as edited by William Irwin (other books in the series are: Seinfeld and Philosophy and The Simpsons and Philosophy). good points about the first film being a "romance." That's an interesting take.

question: IF the wachowski brothers did indeed write the matrix trilogy, had they written all three movies before the first film made? I never was sure, but then i noticed that in the first film, as the opening to the scene in which Neo is interrogated and "bugged" by the agents, the camera zooms in on a wall of television monitors which obviously looks like the architect's room from "matrix reloaded." that leads me to believe that they at least knew where they story would go before the first film was released, but i'm not sure. anybody know anything about that? thanks

They probably did, but still made the first one as a "stand-alone", just in case. That scene is a "hook" to the 2nd film, but if they'd actually shown the architect watching those screens in number 1 it would have been a very loose end.
