If ever a band might stake a claim to rule o'er rock,
All foolish hope said band possessed would logically be gone
When bicentennial newspapers first ran the line:
"Guitar rock fans, rejoice! Hath ye heard the news?
'More Than a Feeling' is the crowning achievement of our time!
Boston's debut effin' rules! Rock's work is done."
[2]
But rock's work, of course, is never done,
So long as we listeners still love to rock.
And so it was that in a different place and time,
Five LA guns jammed until their smack and Aqua Net were gone,
and emerged in '87 with an album fresh and new;
"Welcome to the Jungle" was its opening line.
whirled:
Even before I’d seen the film, I’d heard of every line
No need to synch with the Wizard of Oz, that album’s been done
To teenage ears Pink Floyd’s moody riffs and angst seemed so new
Hammers, wars, brick walls, oh my! Don’t let them distract from the rock
Returned to the world’s attention once the Berlin Wall was gone
Despite its rock opera label, I still think it’s for our time

I've always loved Prince's "Sign o' the Times."
To me, it's a double album in an honored line
Of sets like the "White Album," which, while not exactly gone,
Check off every musical genre till the whole list's done.
Such diversity should simply fail to rock.
This is not the case. As records go, these trump anything new.

In the nineties, when math rock was new,
and when I got off on needless use of 5/4 time,
the band Don Caballero brought me my favorite rock.
Ridiculous drumming, pointillistic guitar lines,
Instrumentals going on nine minutes before they were done...
the days of albums like Don Cab 2 are most likely gone.
theafaye:
Been a long time coming; gonna be a long time gone
Forty years on, their songs still sound new
Crosby Stills and Nash - the best album ever done
Seeing it played live was the best gig of all time
There were jokes about Crosby and how he’s done so many lines
Those guys might be getting on now but they still rock!

These old records all rock, but here's good news:
The days of good records aren't gone, despite rock's End Times.
What style will be next in line? Oh, and when's T-Pain's career done?

As the movie creaked on I began to feel,
That the expectant fans have clearly been had.
All that the first three films possessed that was good,
Was absent; and as I continued to watch
It was painfully obvious what was wrong,
The magic was gone and the new films would suck.
[8]
I was sure this indie "dogumentary" would suck,
But with my dachsund-loving pal, mattered little how I feel.
As it turned out, when it came to "Wiener Takes All," I was wrong.
I was impressed with the dedication all the "racers" had.
And when they run, those little dumpy dogs are fun to watch.
Even if wiener dog races aren't your thing, this is still good.
sydb42:
Speed Racer had no right to be so good.
It's based on a cartoon that many would say sucks.
Still, as a kid and an adult, I would watch.
The movie really captured the feel
Without the goofiness that the TV series had.
If you like Speed, this movie is one with which you can't go wrong.
roina_arwen:
Shirley Temple oft played orphans who were treated wrong,
despite her character being undeniably good.
Ms. Minchin thought Sara's father died at war, and had
the gall to employ Sara as a lowly maid, which sucks.
A Little Princess at heart, Sara rightly knows and feels
her father is still alive. It is a movie I love to watch!
[11]
In "Pink Flamingos," one is forced to watch
so many things that society dubs "wrong."
I wonder how chicken-enhanced rough barnyard sex must feel?
Divine's special treat at the end could not have tasted good.
And I adore Edith Massey, though her acting sucks.
For the miscreant, there are so many laughs here to be had.
ahavah_ehyeh:
Radio Flyer: the boys kind of shared the look that we had -
and maybe something more, I realized as we watched.
The happy mom; drunken, mean stepfather; secret life that sucks.
Everyone has a safe, special place to hide when things go wrong.
I never lost the magic. My escape would be that good.
It helped, at the time, seeing others know how it feels.

It's still hard to feel-- when forced to watch
ads about how Hollywood's been "had"-- that pirating is wrong.
I'll pay 9 bucks to see stuff that's good... but so much of it sucks!
