Do you know the make and model of the TV?

Is it possible that the hook ups are hidden underneath a plastic panel?

Is there a silver knobby thing about 3/4" of an inch long, with ridges along the sides and a small hole in the outer end, on the back of the TV? It's possible, if the TV is old enough, that it only has an RF input instead of the RGB composite cables or an HDMI port. If that's the case, and all your DVD player has are composite or HDMI outputs, you're going to have to buy a converter box in order to make it happen. Best place to get one of those is probably your local Radio Shack.

If you could take a picture of the back of the TV and post it, that would help.

Are you saying that DVD players no longer come with coaxial outputs any more? Man, I'm showing my age.

I've never known a DVD player to have a coax output

Many VCRs have a video input as well as outputs - you may be able to connect a VCR to the TV and a DVD player to the VCR.

Forget any idea of modifying the TV - if it's that old it will be easier and cheaper to replace it, and if you are as incompetent as you say it's an easy way to kill yourself.

Agreed on cheap to replace.

Honestly, just check craigslist all this week and for the next 2 weeks.

Anyone who got a nice big HDTV for christmas wants to get rid of their old CRT, and will frequently put it up on CL for "free, you pick up"

We got THREE nice TVs last year this way. All CRTs, but all over 32 inch, and with composite inputs. No, they're not flat panel or HD, but I don't care. Also, great for the kids

Good point - same thing happens a lot in the UK, and I gave away a 32" widescreen set for exactly that reason.

This is what I did for a long while, till I got a newer TV (used an old VCR-- didn't even play tapes anymore, but the outputs still worked fine).
