This community seems a bit dead, so I feel like I should contribute something.
Anyway, last year, I did a stupid thing and voluntarily worked retail for a year - Home Depot to be exact. The customers were rude and weird for part of it, but there were some entertaining moments.
For instance, one day while working self-check-out, a customer asks me to page his friend. I ask for his friends name, and he tells me "mike Hastur".
I stared for a moment with a big smile on my face, thinking he was joking. When I realized he was serious and had no clue about the reference going through my mind, I did the page.
Unfortunately, what I should have done was say: "Attention Home Depot shoppers, could I have a Mike Hastur...Hastur...HASTUR..."etc.
Someday, I miss being able to page...
