Magick is a difficult word to define. Crowley's definition isn't bad, but I understand that in Thelema "Will" refers to something different than what one might normally define it as. I spell it with a "k", for no real reason other than I like to do so.

Spells and prayers are very different in my book. Spells are the raising and directing of energy for a specific purpose, while a prayer is a (often formal) conversation with deity. Energy may be involved in the latter, but rarely with anything like the focus or will required for a spell. If anything, there's a letting-go of will. I very, very rarely involve deity in a spell. If I do, it's merely to bless my working or see that it keeps to its path. Usually I leave them way out of it, as I object to certain books and websites that include deity in a spell as if they were some form of ingredient. "Light pink candle, invoke Aphrodite."

I rarely cast spells. Most of the time there really isn't a need, and I believe that one should consider other outcomes before resorting to spellwork in most cases. Something small to help you along in certain areas, sure, like to boost confidence before a speech or something... but normally one can live well enough without them.

While I don't believe in karma, I do think it's very important to consider all outcomes of a working, because what we do affects the world. Cast a spell for rain and you may screw up the weather patterns for a large section of the world. (Then again, you may not.) I think it important to keep things in mind and use magick responsibly and with careful thought.
