Dear LiveJournal user snellios,
Thank you for your report. We do take matters such as this very seriously, and when at all possible, we will try to get help for a user who is experiencing such difficulties in his or her personal life.
We are, unfortunately, limited in what information we have about the user. We can only contact the user's local authorities if we have a user's full name and address or phone number; we don't collect any additional information from users. In this case, we can't find enough information about the user to be able to contact the local authorities for them to find help. If you have any information about the user at all, please let us know; while we can't guarantee that we can use that information to help locate the user, it may help us make connections.
Even if you don't have or can't find this information, there are several things you can do if you want to help. The first is to reassure your friend that you care about them, that you're worried, and that there is help out there for people who are feeling suicidal.
This can be done by a comment in their journal, by email, or whatever contact information you have. It is often hard to figure out what to say in this situation, but reassuring your friend that they are cared about, that they would be missed, and that you're worried, can all help a great deal.
If you're not certain what to say, or how to say it, suicide hotlines can help you figure out what to say. You should also encourage your friend to call such a hotline or get other help directly. There are a number of suicide hotlines in the US: one that the Abuse Team has worked with before is the Hopeline at 1-800-784-2433.
Our thoughts are with you and your friend during this difficult time; we hope that the situation improves. Again, please contact us immediately if you are able to locate any information about your friend.
