This is a CSS based layout. There are lots of options to fiddle around with in the wizard, which is both good and bad because it is kind of overwhelming. The components in the sidebar can be added, removed, and reordered as needed. One of the more interesting things about this layout is the sidebar. There is an option to remove the sidebar in the ( Read more... )

I'm new to the whole S2 thing, and to twiddling with my LJ on my own. What layout are you using? I'm assuming it's a custom layout, since that's the point of the contest, but I don't know what number I should be putting for the layout - I only see the numbers for the themes. Er?

The ID number for this layout is 4014482. If you want to use the layout, go to your styles page, create a new style, then choose the "other ..." option in the "layout" dropdown box. In the layerid box, put in 4014482, and press the "change" button. Then go back to your styles page, and press the "use" button next to the style you just created.

I feel really, really stupid to be asking this, but what if there isn't an "other..." option? I can't find it for the life of me. I looked in the "layout" dropdown box in the screen that comes after you create a new style, then looked at the "layout" dropdown box in the section that says "your layers."

Never mind. I was stupid. Someone just pointed out where to find that elusive other... Damn computers. I shouldn't be allowed anywhere near them.

(I am so, so in awe of all of you who made styles from scratch. God knows that I could barely understand how to do it in S1. Trying to figure out S2 has made me feel about as intelligent as a toaster.)

Well it took me a looong time to learn how to use s1 properly, and an even longer time to learn s2. I learned by example. There are so many neat styles in this competition, and lots of examples to learn from, so who knows, maybe you'll be able to make your own style one day!

For those of us who are S2 nincompoops - how do you do that? I know how to modify my personal links list, but ... can I take out the "page summary" option? Also, I was using another contestant's entry for a few days, and I was able to modify the "leave a comment/#comments" text, but I don't remember how I did it, and those settings don't seem to have transferred to your style when I put it to use.

Yep, you can take out the page summary option. First go to the Customize Journal page, and click on the "Edit Customizations" button. Click on the "Sidebar Options" tab, and then scroll down to where it says "Third box in the sidebar". Select the checkbox next to "Override default", and then in the dropdown box select "None". (Hey... I just discovered a bug :p) If you want to keep the alternating colours in the sidebar, I'd suggest you select "Calendar" for "Third box in the sidebar" and "None" for "Fifth box in the sidebar".

For the comments thing, you have to click on the "Text" tab, and then look for "Link text to read comments.".

D'oh! Thanks. I knew I'd accessed that area before, but then I kept overlooking it this time and couldn't remember how I'd done it. I've changed to your Rain theme and done some twiddling. Kudos to your creation!

TI'm trying to install this style onto my LJ following your directions, but there's a problem. When I try to create a new style on my "styles page", I get an error stating that I have reached the maximum number of styles. I haven't made any s2 styles myself and I've even deleted a couple of LJ s2 styles that I don't like, and I still get that error. Do you know how I may get around this?

Well you're only allowed to have a maximum of 10 styles at a time, but there is a way around that. :)

Hey there, I just wanted to let you know I've updated the code for my style. I fixed some bugs and added some new stuff. If I broke any of your customizations please let me know!

Things look ok to me. I did notice a few changes right after the contest, but right now it looks normal. :)
