I'm a little disappointed to see that in the new update page version, there's no option to 'Select Tags'. This is a feature that I use quite often with this account, and I'm really sorry to see it go.

Just going to say that the design is a little less clean-cut than the older one and seems to take up way more space for the same information. The music/mood/location tags being all the way over at the side when they could be where they used to be, beside the comment settings selections, just seems to be a way to make it take up even more space.

Also not completely sold on the way to switch where to post to. It just seems like there's more clicking and switching formats than there needs to be.

Edit -
Holy crap, I'm first. /gasp

This. There's so much empty space with the new version, why can't those options be displayed without needing an extra click? (Besides, Firefox gives me a "you're about to leave this site" warning when I click it.)

Really? That's... uh... odd? And totally not cool for an in-site service/cut. Again, another reason I'm not sold on it.

There's "select" button near the tags field.

I vastly prefer the old version. It's nowhere near as neatly set out as the old one and I don't see why any of the changes are necessary (with the exception of the "restore draft" button, which I do think is a rather good idea).

The new tag selection interface is a disgrace. If I'm typing in the first few letters of a tag, I want just that one tag, not all the tags that I last used that started with those few letters. (i.e. if I want to tag something "meme", I don't want it to automatically say "meme, fandom: harry potter, life, writing"). Please change it back.

Agreed. The old version is SO much more clean-cut than the new version. Seriously, what happened to the principle of KISS?

This is horrible, please rethink it! Although, considering that we still have the really ugly comment box of r86 I seriously doubt you even care what I have to say here.

Ditto. I use TONS and TONS of tags -- and it's a feature I need to have working well. (sigh)

Hmm...Some of this is interesting and I might end up liking: having an undo button, graphic userpics, clearer (if still dang tiny) HTML buttons.

Why is mood/music/location way over in the hinterlands off on the side? Looks like there should be plenty of room under the text box. And what is the reasoning behind the tags redo? It already showed in alpha order, and having the checkboxes was more efficient and easier to see if I'd selected all the ones I wanted.

Is the new roll-out why automatic spellcheck has been working only part of the time, or is that a screw-up due to the last Firefox release?

Is there any way to set the default text in the text boxes to a larger font? (i.e. larger only in the text box. I don't need it to post in larger font, just be larger so it can be seen while inputting it.)

Do you mean the spellcheck that's in effect when you leave comments? If so, that would be related to Firefox.

If you mean the one that comes up if you hit "Enter" when you're in the tag box or tell it to spellcheck, that's down to LJ.

I don't know which the poster above meant, but I've noticed that when typing a post (not a comment), misspellings used to be underlined in red. And now they're not, or at least they weren't as of last night. This feature is working in comments, however. Weird.

Huh. I use Chrome and rarely ever use the LJ post function (I don't post to many communities anymore), so I don't have a clue what that's about. It does sound like something they need to investigate, though, since browser-based spellchecks tend to be better than site-based.

This new version is what we're going to be stuck with in the future even if we don't like it, correct?

It seems like there's quite a bit more clicking and scrolling in order to change where you're posting.

I use IE and I don't know if it is just my computer being wonky or this new design, but if I start typing my tags in this new one, it doesn't automatically fill in the rest of the word.

If I click on change to community, and I actually wanted to post to my own journal, as far as I can tell, it doesn't give me that option.

Clicking on 'select' gives me a message about going to another screen while also opening whatever menu I'm trying to reach. How to you select more than one tag now? If I highlight a tag, for some reason it opens another update screen.

I don't understand why the 'improvements' always turn out to be worse than what is already in existance.

The tag autocomplete works for me in IE9, and tag select does not give me a message about going to another screen. I can easily click on multiple tags, and each tag is clearly selected with an 'x' next to it so I can see which I have chosen.

You might want to try restarting your browser and clearing cache to make sure the problems you are seeing are just down to a page misload.

Oh good, at least I wasn't the only one who got stuck with the new posting to a community and not being able to back out of it as there seems to be no "back" or cancel.

And I'm not sure "back" on the option to change who you are posting as is good either.

I can't reproduce the behavior you describe with the select link giving you another screen, and then that clicking individual tags also opens another screen. What specific version of IE are you using? And, as a comparison test, do you have another browser you can log into and see if the behavior is the same?

(What should happen and what happens when I tried to test was that you click 'select' and a dialog pops up that lists all your tags. You can then click as many tags as you want to add them to the entry from that one dialog, and they'll be populated into the Tags field -- no extra windows or tabs, etc.)

Oh no. The userpic selection with all the images is hugely annoying, just as it is under the new comment system. Can we please have the dropdown back? That's what keywords are forAlso, selecting where to post to is about ten times as complicated as it was, and there seems to be no way to deselect the "to community" thingy ( ... )

But the text box eventually does stop growing, yet no scrollbar appears when the post is longer than the box.

This is a problem I've pointed out in the past with the comment boxes as they are now in the default setting. If you type enough to fill it, the box itself expands, but there's no scroll bar to go up/down the comment. It just expands the whole page. I kind of preferred it staying compact.

I share your preference, but being able to scroll to all the parts of your entry is really elementary functionality. So even if they prefer the expanding box, then it needs to expand as long as the post is. As it is, the box only expands up to a certain point, but you can still enter more text. From then on, the only way to get to previous parts of your post is with the arrow keys, moving the cursor up. Not good. :(
