notifications system

We have made a great deal of improvements to the notifications system, based on your feedback and based on our ongoing testing. There have been so many fixes that I may have forgotten to list some of them here; however, we have kept track of everything that's been reported, so if you don't see the issue listed in the "Known Issues" section, you can ( Read more... )

A problem I've been experiencing the last few days (2-3) is that I wasn't getting ANY comment notifications whatsoever. In doing some research, my Yahoo! mail somehow had blocked the lj-notify email addy, which is weird becuase I did NOTHING to change that.

However, under other LJer advice, I've turned off all tracking and now I'm getting notifications again --- BUT they don't actually show up in my email box. My Yahoo! tells me I have new mail from LJ-notify, but I get NO email in my actual box.

Now, I don't know if this is a Yahoo! issue or an LJ issue but it's really really a problem and if you have ANY advice at all, I'd appreciate it.

My lj notify goes to my yahoo account as well and I've had no issues receiving notifications or getting the actual messages. You may look into creating an lj filter so that way all emails containing lj info will go to a specific folder in your yahoo mail instead of your inbox.

The instructions on how to do that can be seen here: http://help.yahoo.com/us/index.html

Just type in "How do I create filters?" Hope that helps.

Thanks, I don't think that's the problem as I'm getting other mail just fine and Yahoo! likes to give me that notification of "you've got mail" style when a new one arrives - it's part of my Yahoo! Messenger features - like yours just did - it's just that the mail itself never actually appears in my email box anywhere. It's invisible, I guess, lol! I'm not sure creating a filter will fix that, but I'll do it and see what happens.

Thanks!

You're welcome even if it doesn't help. Check the filters out thought. They're pretty cool. I have a folder for Lj only, one for another site I'm a member of, one that's just regular inbox, blah blah.

Anyway, best of luck.

huh. Whaddya know. I set that up and then I got one. It didn't count as a new email in my inbox count (it's been sitting at 16 unread for a bit and it still said 16) but my new LJ Comment filter showed that there was something new in there. Behold, an LJ comment on a post of mine.

Thanks! I don't know why, but that worked.

Who knows why it worked. It was probably the combination of weird lj stuff and weird yahoo stuff. Glad it worked.

I've had an LJ filter set up for years and it's always worked until now.

*weeps*

I've been having a similar problem except that my notifications aren't even going into my bulk folder. I'm not getting them at all. I'll try the filter thing and see what happens but I don't know if that will help.

Turns out that didn't help, either. It's a Yahoo! issue and they say they're aware of it.

For now I'm using gmail instead and it's working 100% fine.

For Yahoo! I'd get the popup notification that I had a new message from LJ but when I'd go to the inbox, NOTHING. Empty. Not even the idea that a new email was in the box. It's like the notification went as far through Yahoo! as setting off the You Got Mail!-type notice, but the inbox would turn it away and not allow it in.

I'm not even getting that. And the notifications aren't going into my junkmail either. I'm not getting them AT ALL! And the best part is that my yahoo mail is the only mail I have that I check on a daily basis. I guess that's going to have to change.

This is really weird because I'm getting my google.com alerts and my greatestjournal.com notifications, just not the LJ ones.

It's not just a yahoo issue. I don't use yahoo and I haven't received a single comment since the tracking was implemented. In the last week I've tried more than one email address and more than one ISP. I know many many people (I'd say 15% of my friendslist) with the same problem. Also when I went to the support section of ebay about every 8th question was about this.

I'm glad your's got fixed though!

It's only fixed if I use gmail, lol. Yahoo, last time I tested, still wasn't working. Yahoo had sent me an email saying it was something they were aware of, but....
