OKAY, LADIES AND GENTS! I have a very special announcement regarding the way things are going to be done around here moving forward! It's going to be experimental at first and I may have to make some adjustments and tweaks as we go, but here's the general plan going forward. There is a lot of information below, so please feel free to ask questions, as others may be wondering the same things!
The regular polls (as you currently know and love them) are going to be posted on Wednesday every other week. They will include the 8 top-voted photos from the previous two weeks (Sunday 12:00 AM EST through Saturday 11:59 PM EST). We will also be once again offering a prize for the winner of the poll! (300 Tokens)
Every other ("off") week between the regular poll, we will have a theme post. It will also be posted on Wednesdays, and will include all theme photos posted from the moment the new theme is presented (on a Wednesday), to when I post the compilation entry (Wednesday two weeks later). I may add late entries if you post soon enough, but I will not go back and add them forever.
It will not be a typical poll, and there will be no prize. It will be more of a discussion/questions/learning post. Constructive Criticism will be welcome on these photos, HOWEVER - we are a friendly community and we aren't about useless insults. Remember, there is another human being on the other side of the screen, who may be of a different skill level than you, who is trying to learn. We aren't all professional photographers, and some of us just enjoy the hobby and enjoy learning and sharing as we go. So play nice- if you don't like a photo, there's no need to just knock it down. Constructive criticism is just that - it's helpful. Do you think a photo is almost perfect but needs just a little something? This will be the place to offer this advice. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS MAY HAPPEN WHEN YOU ARE POSTING A THEME PHOTO.
When you post a photo for the theme, please use the tag "Theme Photo." (If you need help with using tags, please send me a PM, leave a comment, or otherwise put the words "Theme Photo" in the subject line of your entry.) For the theme post, I will then collect all theme photos regardless of votes, and compile them into one entry. There will then be a few poll questions and some discussion. Hopefully the themes will get your creative juices flowing! It is strongly encouraged to use the theme to get out there and take a new photo, but you may use photos you already have if it fits the theme.
LJ_Photophile will still operate the way it usually does, and you may still post whatever photos you'd like at any time. ALL PHOTOS POSTED (including theme photos) will still have +1 votes, and will be eligible for the "regular" poll. However, you may state in your entry that you would NOT like it to be considered for the poll - for instance, if you have a different photo you'd like considered first. The next theme will be posted at the end of the theme compilation posts.
This is probably all very confusing in text form, and hopefully it will become clearer as they happen.
TL;DR:
