new maintainer

Thank you to everyone who voted. :) This last vote was even closer than the one before it -- 77 to 76 -- with only one vote breaking the tie. (I don't think I've ever seen a poll come that close!) Congratulations to nikolasco, our new lj_nifty maintainer. :)

Congrats to nikolasco!

But I do have to wonder, with the vote so close, why not just add them both? I mean, if they're both qualified and trustworthy, then why not?

We could, but I don't really think it's warranted -- the community doesn't get nearly enough activity to even occupoy one maintainer, let alone two. Maybe if the community picks up and we get like five posts a week? *g*

I know I've said this before, but foxfirefey March 11 2007, 09:22:51 UTC
I don't think it's necessarily a matter of occupying more than one maintainer--I think it's always nice to be able to share responsibilities, so that you always have one person covering your back and to bounce ideas off of. (I always worry about becoming too tyrannical, myself, although I don't think others would have that issue like I do!) It lets one person go on vacation or get extra busy without leaving the community unattended. And I've found that reasonable people can co-mod with little strife, as long as they are willing to listen to each other with respect.

Is nikolasco allowed to bring on extra mods like adudeabides if he feels it's a good idea?

Geez ... I didn't vote, waiting for some (cough) "compelling issue" to sway my opinion one way or another ... this could have been a deadlock with just a little bit of lucre changing hands!

I should hire myself out as a (Chicago-style) political consultant!

Since it was so close, is there any reason there can't be co-maintainers?

Agreed; whether it is warranted or not, it certainly can't hurt, and it will make the best of the issue for everyone.

Agreed. I don't really buy the "not enough work for two" - even with a community as low-maintenance as this, it's always a good idea to have backup in case of emergencies, for moderatory discussion, coming up with ideas, etc.

Agreed. They differ vastly in what would make them both good maintainers. I actually wanted to vote for both. :|

I'd agree with the idea for co-maintainers purely for the reason that I can't imagine how the other person would feel, losing on such a close call.

However, I did vote for nikolasco for multiple reasons. Basically, my opinion is this: if they both want to work with each other, let them co-maintain it. If not, then we can move on with our lives. I know sometimes people really like to do things independently and such instead of with a person who's nearly a stranger, so just ask them. Because really, that *was* close, and it'll solve a lot of conflicts and debates.

PS: In response to the 'not enough work' thing, I'd say that's fine. Even if it's low maintenance, why care? At least it'll be fair and if a person wants to stop maintaining it, they're free to. Also, doing the tags and such sounds like it'd take a long time. Two people can cut the work down drastically.

The tags is an excellent point; that IS a lot of work, and having two people for it would help considerably.
