Login Session, Site Slowness

If you go to http://www.livejournal.com/manage/logins.bml , you can see the recent login history for your account.

Yesterday a change was made that recorded incorrect IP addresses for a few hours.  Probably a 172.something address. That is not our staff, just a screw-up on our part. [edit: The entries in your login history are not other people, we ( Read more... )

This makes no sense: "That is not our staff, just a screw-up on our part. It's most likely your own computer." MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

It continues to be difficult to open most friends pages and community pages, It is almost impossible to post comments. Comments sit there and will not post or I have to make repeated attempts at posting them.

I'm pretty sure they meant 'that's not our staff logging into your journal, just a screw-up making it look like that, when in reality it's your computer logging onto your journal."

Thanks for your translation of what LJ may have meant. I disagree with the part about it being our computer logging onto our LJ. I say this because I know my IP addresses with my different browsers.

I have a Dreamwidth account also. I looked at my login sessions and noticed that LJ has tracked that too.

It's not about your default IP addresses. It's an internal IP address commonly used for localhost. For example 127.0.0.1 is your home IP. More info here.

The dreamwidth logins on that page are when the cross-poster from DW logged in to your LJ account briefly to make the cross posts. It knows nothing about when you log into your DW account.

I think what they're saying about the recorded logins is that for a while they were just wrong; that the numbers recorded are meaningless. I don't suppose the LJ volunteers spend their time typing out the information about login IPs and one of them just snapped (though I wouldn't blame them for doing so) but rather the electronic equivalent.

Er, "recorded incorrect IP addresses for a few hours" = "the IP address you will see is NOT the IP address you know is yours". Sort of like if the bouncer at a club was looking at your identification, but wrote down Mickey Mouse on the guest list instead, because he was high as a kite and thought it would be funny. Except the electronic version.
