Speed up the way our user information is pulled out of the database.
The code release we were originally planning for yesterday has been pushed back to at least Monday. dnewhall asked for, and received the SQL patches separate from the main release and pushed out ( Read more... )

I noticed a dramatic performance improvement since the patches (for values of going from near-inaccessible to minor delays). Fingers crossed the rest goes as well :)

I just have a question....

I have a perm acct, and for the past year or so a couple of my friends have reported that they can never get my lj to load. Apparently this is an ongoing issue for them, with my account and maybe one or two of their other friends, but no other journals they read. I of course have no way to replicate the problem, as my journal always loads just fine for me, so I've been unsure of what, if anything, to report.

Could that be related to these issues you guys are currently fixing?

Can you ask your friends to file Support requests at http://www.livejournal.com/support/ by themselves? That may help us (read, Support volunteers) troubleshoot.

I will tell them they need to do so. Or else stop complaining to me about it. ;) Thanks!

With how often LJ has been going down the past few days, is there any chance of paid accounts getting an extension?

One thing that is not in our (and by our/we/me, I mean the "Operations team") control is the subject of reimbursement or compensation for degraded performance.

I'm pretty sure the OP already explained that can't be addressed here?

Most of the time the system doesn't perform anything.
It's a great achievement. A natural result of numerous useless improvements. Nobody's talking about some real improvement anymore.

Thanks for all your hard work =) LJ is still loading slowly, but at least its not timing out on me (at least, not on this account, which is paid) anymore.
