So, you'll have seen the news, as we promised we have launched our first real India initiative - it's a writing contest with some pretty decent prizes!

We wanted to focus on an area which was core to LiveJournal and creative writing was the obvious place to start. We have developed this in partnership with Caferati, one of India's most popular ( Read more... )

Decent prizes. :) Yes, I'll admit it's definitely a good start. With only 81 members 'watching' lj_india, and 20 'watching' india_writing, I doubt many people would take part though. By the time people log in and check their friends pages, both these posts would have been pushed out of their friends pages.

We need to spread the word that something is going on. I'd suggest adding a script that will identify India-IP's directly and splash a miniature advert on the visitors screen. This way, we'll also make LJ more attractive to non-LJ'ers who happen to visit from India.

As you will see from the community page, we have featured some popular India communities.

Community Main/Journal page or Info/Profile page? Both don't feature any India communities as far as I can tell..

All in all, the contest looks fun.. Hope we have a huge ton of responses or we'll end up with fewer entries than we have prizes for. :) Good luck!

Hey Angiasaa,

Thanks so much for the comment and the suggestions - you are right on each count and we are going to action as many as possible. We have in fact taken the following measures to ensure that the message goes out:

- a lot of participants are likely to 'join' LJ and india_writing to participate in the contest and an active outreach through the Caferati network, mainstream media, blogs, word-of-mouth is on and shall continue through the duration of the contest.

- As you suggest, India targeted ads are being enabled - in fact, if you see any of them yourself...please let us know :)

- http://livejournal.caferati.com already features some of our interesting India communities and india_writing shall feature them too.

- There is more stuff coming up and what's encouraging is that entries have started to come in :)

Please help us spread the word too.

Keep writing.

Cheers

Rajesh for Team LiveJournal
