a runoff vote!

Jul 31, 2006 13:11

Thank you to everyone who voted in the last poll! We're going to do one final run-off poll of the top three names, again listed in a completely random order. (And, as before, first name listed is for the horizontal, second one is for the vertical.)

Poll

Thank you all for your feedback! Poll is now closed. Looks like we're going with Horizon/Vertigo!

Dang, I should've voted for the clouds.

Thanks!
I'd voted before checking if 'Cumulus' was an actual word (stupid of me, I know). Horizon / Vertigo seemed kinda plain, but the most appropriate (to me, naturally).

I like names that actually describe the thing it's for(like horizon/vertigo, I know which is which). I have no idea why 2 cloud types got there, or why either represents its respective style. I mean, they're BOTH horizontal clouds! The goat ones are a nice thought, but look weird and have little to do with their inspirations. "Goatopia" IS a nice name, though. "Goat Place" in Greek(second word).
I may switch to the new style on all my accounts, regardless of the name. It's clean, well-organized, and I don't have to do weird down-left mouse movements to avoid hitting another menu. I still don't like mouseover menus, though, because I sometimes run over a menu while going to a link, and a menu pops up over the link as I'm pressing the button, and I have to go back and re-click the link sans-menu. Despite that, it's still easier to find stuff.

It doesn't have to describe what it's for (neither XColibur nor Dystopia do, after all), as you get mini-screenshots on the page where you select your site scheme.

Besides, vertigo means dizziness, which isn't that appropriate for a LiveJournal site scheme…

Hmm, I thought vertigo implied a reaction to height (though, naturally, not always), but I can't find any sources which say so. Odd. Am I thinking of something else?

Vertigo is commonly caused by looking down from a great height, yes. But it can also be caused by inner ear infections.

The word "vertigo" is sometimes used to mean acrophobia (fear of heights), but strictly speaking that's an incorrect use because "vertigo" is only referring to the whirling sensation, not the height itself.

Well, yeah, that's just what I was saying: All the definitions of vertigo I was finding didn't specify acrophobia; They just mentioned the sensation.

Perhaps, then, they should use the names claustrophobia and acrophobia? ;>

I think that's why most people are selecting H/V -- it describes what you'll get. The thing is, they're fairly plain names. I like the fact that (with the exception of Lynx) LJ has named themes. Being told what it'll essentially look like is pretty much what the screenshots did for the exsiting themes - and personally, I still had to check them out completely before I could decide which was my favorite.

Of course they're both horizontal clouds. Please tell me -- where have you seen the vertical ones? I'd love to take pictures of those!
*ahem*
I don't like the goat ones. They've already used Excalibur.

Despite that, it's still easier to find stuff.
The only reason I'm using it. Otherwise, I'd stick to Dystopia. This one had (but they seem to have changed it) the same problem as Dystopia: View Journal / Edit Journal and View Friends / Edit Friends (still seperate, actually) weren't in the same place and I'd sometimes get confused.

Thank you so much, I immediately regretted voting for Horizon/Vertigo. :)
