However, it could be way better than any of the current possibilities or way worse than any of the current possibilities, depending on the selection of "common links".
Personally, I'd like to be able to choose which links appear for me. I'd also like to choose which side of the screen they appear on (left or right for a longer list, maybe top or bottom for a short list -- or top and bottom, so you have them available when you first look at a page and also when you finish reading a page).
yes! for instance, i often go to the syndication page to add a new feed to my friends list, but this link is nowhere in the browse menu. for a long time i would navigate there through the FAQ (not efficient!) but recently i added the link to my browser bookmarks. frustration!
