It's been a while since we've posted because we've been pretty busy with the Sponsored+ launch.

There were a bunch of us here that were holding our breath. It was a big launch for us, and forced us to get more infrastructure in place that will help us ship things faster in the future. I for one am pretty happy that we've launched it because even ( Read more... )

I think CProd/Clippy is the most annoying thing ever. I am especially annoyed with the way it shows up on all my free RPG accounts telling me to upgrade them to Sponsored+ so that I can spam my 1942 era RPG with zillions of 2006 ads including flash and graphics. I wish I could make it go away.

Hit the "view all" link and that'll let you remove a module from the rotation; we only have a handful of modules, which is why you're seeing the same one over and over and over again. (Eventually, individual tips will have a "don't show me this again" option, I believe.)

Thank you--I've actually done that with several of my accounts already--but I really hate having Sponsored+ pushed at me on all my free accounts, especially since people with Sponsored+ accounts don't just have to view ads themselves, they force all other free users who read their posts to view them too. For which reason I have told the people in the RPGs I run that if they go to Sponsored+ I'll remove their accounts from the game.

What browser do you use? I think I could give you instructions to make it go away using User Style sheets, as well. That might be less of a pain than going through and dismissing all the prods.

Foxfire, using LJ login. Is it something I'd have to do in each of over 50 RPG accounts?

Good, I'm use Firefox and should be able to test and figure out pretty quickly.

No, it's something you'd have to do once to your browser, and your browser would ignore them from then on. Which is why it's a better solution than the repeated "don't remind me again"s.

All that I ask in return is that you tell me if it doesn't work or has problems; I'm writing up a guide for no_lj_ads on this soon, and it would help to get any feedback possible!

Off I go to testing!

That would be EXCELLENT, and I'd be glad to do it. :)

Alright, here we go: foxfirefey May 14 2006, 02:47:57 UTC
You're going to need to edit your userContent.css file. Since you probably don't already have one, open up Notepad and put this in there and save it as userContent.css:

/* Removes CProds from pages. */

#CProd_box
{
display: none;
}

Now, how to find where to place the userContent.css file:

This guide on their site should tell you where your profile folder is.

There's going to be a folder in the profile folder called "chrome". Move your userContent.css file there.

Now, if these instructions aren't clear or don't work, let me know so we can work those issues out!

Remember to restart your browser after you make those changes!

They're all really annoying, it's just that only one of them is trying to foist ads on me. They remind me of that stupid paper clip in Microsoft Office that says things like "It looks like you're trying to write a letter. Do you want some help?" And makes me think, "No, I don't need help writing a letter. I have a college degree, which means I have to have passed fifth grade."
