This doesn't seem to be right, because you've made "collapse" the default. As well as activating "safe search" by default.

That annoyed me too, I had to go in and change my settings. I bet a lot of people didn't realize those were set automatically, because they never announced it. Nice job being transparent, LJ.

Don't you know? LJ are MASTERS OF STEALTH.

Actually, scratch that. They did mention that searches would be filtered by default in the previous entry.

But that implies that all users 18+ don't want to see (or shouldn't be allowed to see) adult content, which is ridiculous. I don't want LJ's puritan morals being forced upon me. I'm 21 years old, damn it! >.>

Go to your account settings. I had my birthday in there but no year for some reason. Once you add the year it will allow you to change the viewing options. What pain in the ass.

Yeah, the information in this post doesn't seem to be correct because a lot of people on my f-list have had that problem. Check to see if you have your birth year in your user info (it doesn't have to be displayed publicly) and then go back to the viewing options page.

I changed the year and I still have the +18 blocked off. I'm pretty sure it has to be the year you registered with, not the one in your bio.

I was going to point this out too.

Don't collapse was default for me, though I did have to turn off safe search.

For users over 18 the setting is defaulted to not collapse any content.

It also defaulted to filter search results. That implies that all users 18+ don't want to see (or shouldn't be allowed to see) adult content, which is ridiculous. I don't want LJ's puritan morals being forced upon me.

Good point. I had to change the search settings for my account as well.

Same here. I had my birthdate in my profile and it still defaulted to filtered, as it did for others on my flist. And I was not aware of that until someone pointed it out to me.

Ditto.
I just checked my settings, and while my default was not collapsed (I assume because my birthday is set in my profile), my search filter was defaulted to screen out explicit content, which is pretty much the only thing I would possibly want to search for on LJ. Extremely patronizing and rude of LJ to do that.
