Hi, LiveJournal founder here. I haven't posted here in awhile, but I figured it was time I made an appearance. If you don't remember any of my previous rants over the past seven years or so, the summary is that I hate advertising. Especially punching animated monkeys that slow down my computer and distract me from what I'm reading.

Go ahead with ads. As long as I don't have to see them if I'm perm or paid or free without ads.

Actually, it looks like you WILL see them if you're No-Ad Free.
Notice it makes it explicitly clear that PAID accounts will never see ads.

No-Ads Free would mean that you see no ads on YOUR LJ, but you would see them on the LJs of those who choose to have ads.

Perm = Paid The Never Expires.

You'll never see ads anywhere on LJ (as long as you're logged in), same as Paid.

Historically, LiveJournal required that you either start a paid account or receive an invite code from someone who already had an account in order to become a member.
