Update to Development Priorities

Aug 07, 2008 16:00

Back in March we provided you with our Development Priorities for 2008, and updated you on the progress we made on the original 100 day plan. We also mentioned we would continue to engage with the community on future plans, and in subsequent updates talked about the Advisory Board elections (April) and Basic Account proposals (July). Thanks to ( Read more... )

Very nice!

Oh, nice! That'll make the love memes last longer.

We plan another permanent account sale in November.
Now up to $200?

A la carte purchase of additional userpics to be released in November, and increased limits for free userpics for Plus and Paid accounts
But I assume Permanent account holders would get the maximum allowed already, right?

We've got no final information on the price, so opinions would be welcome!

I'll check on the plan for the extra userpic packages and if that would affect Permanent Accounts.

Well, all I know is that it went up $50 each time, right? And I paid $150 for mine the last time. ERGO. But I think a discount may be in order, since I'm sure people are still somewhat wary of handing over their money to this new organization, although the recent developments have been looking good. Maybe $150 again, or just $100?

Thanks. What does it mean, á la carte? Like, you could pay per userpic rather than only getting fifteen or sixty or whatever? As for Permanent Accounts, they've generally increased the limit for us each time they've increased the limit for Paid Accounts in general, but I don't know how crazy they're going with the new limit. I know some sites offer something like a thousand slots.

GreatestJournal did. I understand GJ no longer exists. From what I understand the site architecture is really screwy with too many userpics, but maybe the CDN is helping there?

Thing is, it's probably a small minority of users who would really go wild with a crazy amount of icon space anyway. It's not like suddenly all the millions of users would upload a thousand icons and kill the server.

Um...

You do know about this 'fandom' section of LJ, right? The ones with several paid RP accounts, each of which is maxed out on icons and twitching for more?

But you're right, it couldn't be millions of users: there are less than a million active anyway ;-)

Yes, the CDN will help with that - which is one of the reasons we could do this now, but not before.

No, this means that you could purchase additional packages on top of the userpics you already have - so the maximum available for purchase would increase. That's why I'm not sure it would affect Permanent Accounts, since they already get the highest limit for the base packages + loyalty pics.

Which, I say as a permanent account holder since before there were loyalty pics, is currently 43 icons more than paid users with the extra userpics feature have. So it's not that much of an advantage at this point. I think the idea sounds great - I just really hope there will be some corresponding improvement for permanent accounts as well.

The sale last summer was $150 as well.

I'm not sure if raising the price is a good idea, but since I won't have to buy it, I should shut up now, right?

I don't think going down on the price should be an option AT ALL.

I'd be curious about this, as a Permanent Account user. Frankly, there can never be enough icons (userpics). (smile)

Thanks.

Yeah, I have yet to fill up all my icon space because then I would have to really start deleting old icons to make room for new ones, so I just...preemptively don't add new ones unless I really really really like them and will keep them. But if I had even more space...

But if I had even more space...

Yeah, I hear that!

On the list of important things here at LJ, you wouldn't think icons would rate so highly, would you? But I love 'em to pieces. I just do.

I would hope that we perm account holders get the max (well the max when it's upgraded as well). I mean that's what i paid for last year. While yes my money have been paid and whatever I still have a few years worth of use b4 my money has been "used up" when the yearly charge is what 20 dollars. Granted that was b4 SUP took over but I'd like to think that what i paid for last year which was pretty much the full amount of userpics. That was the reason I wanted my perm account, the max allowable user pics ALL the time.
