No to the new friends page.

ETA: That endless scrolling SUCKS! If someone has a lot of friends and misses a few days, they're going to freeze their computer because of all the shit that's going on.. There was nothing, and I MEAN NOTHING wrong with the 'old way'. Keep the "previous" and "next" links.

It's also kind of ironic that they added entry page comments pagination and comment collapsing, to reduce clutter or database load or something... and then make infinite friends pages.

Shouldn't they then also make infinite comment pages, with all comments all the time?

It wouldn't work so well for comment pages because comments are threaded, not flat. That said, the whole "expand" business that they've got going on these days is the same principle - load content dynamically, with one of the key differences being that it only happens upon user request.

Just letting you know that I have filed a ticket requesting that infinite scroll be put under user control as an option (the user would be able to turn it on or off for their friends page). I of course have no ability to know whether that will be done, but it has been requested.

Thank you so much. And thank you again for listening, which should not be a rarity among LJ staff but sadly is.

Thank you! Infinite scroll is a huge stress on my old computer. It should absolutely be opt-in.

Thank you! I was too busy to participate in the beta testing of this release, and I am very worried about this infinite scroll.

Thank you. <3
I don't envy you this position you are in, between the unhappy users and the Russian management - again.
I wish there was something I could do to help you, besides protesting at the Russian announcement page, which I'm afraid is of no use.

THANK YOU!! i know there are staff who truly do care but they are rather impotent when it comes to getting things across to the management---who won't even listen to hundreds of users!!!

Thank you for at least requesting that it be made optional. I don't envy the US staff their position at all.

This is also pretty much a make-or-break thing for me. I use an older computer and infinite scroll is often not functional for me. I still follow enough people who update here regularly that I often have to scroll back more than 50 posts to see them all, and I'd like to keep reading them.

Infinite scroll will be able to be turned off -- there's a new lj_releases post from last night that confirms this. [http://lj-releases.livejournal.com/79629.html]

This. I mean, even tumblr allows you to disable endless scroll. I really don't want the news friends page at all but at the very least if they insist on it, they need to find some way not to crash everyone's f-lists.
