"Hey." Chanyeol greets as he sidles into the space next to Baekhyun, successfully elbowing a few fangirls out of his way. The girls turn around to glare at him, wanting to tell him off for cutting the queue, but the intensity of their glower drops magically when they see his face. "How much longer till the event starts?" He asks taking out his new DSLR.
"Around 15 minutes I guess? Someone just came out to make an announcement saying that they are already backstage." His friend answers, adjusting the little card taped on his camera. "And what is this that you're wearing?" Baekhyun raises his eyebrows sending Chanyeol a judgmental look.
"This?" Chanyeol's smile becomes even brighter as his friend's question. "It's a custom made shirt for Perfect KAI, all of our members have one each, isn't it cute?" He asks pointing at the fansite logo that is printed on a black shirt.
"No. It's cheesy, and it makes you look gay." Baekhyun comments in an attempt to dampen his friend's high spirits. "You'll just get judged by everyone out there for being so weird, and fan-boyish." There is an extra emphasis on the last word, and there is a slight contempt in the way Baekhyun enunciates it. If not for the fact that the two of them are partner in crime in chasing after the hottest boyband in town, he will have thought that his best friend is against this entire idolizing affair.
"But you're here too, so doesn't that make you weird too?" Chanyeol states as a matter-of-fact in his loud voice. "And don't forget that you are the almighty fansite hyung for DO DYO." He teases his friend who is resolutely ignoring him and the attention they have attracted from the surrounding fans.
"Anyway, look at this." The excited boy pulls out a mini plushy keychain from his bag and dangles it in front of Baekhyun's face.
"What is this supposed to be? A bundle of brown cloth?"
"This is Monggu." The bright smile finally falters slightly after Baekhyun's multiple attacks, "Doesn't this resemble it slightly?" Chanyeol asks, praying that the answer will be an affirmative.
"It's a miracle if anyone can recognize what it is." Baekhyun shrugs, causing Chanyeol to feel troubled. "You should still give it to him anyway, he already knows you as the weird fan."
"Shut up." He smacks Baekhyun's arms as a revenge for the insults, and a small frown imprints itself on his face as he worries about his gift.
Chanyeol's worries are thrown aside when loud screams fill the area, indicating that the group is about to appear on stage. He quickly adjusts his lenses for the last time, and aims it at the stage from the awesome first row he is at (thanks to Baekhyun). The five boys slowly walk on stage, and the screams become deafening as fangirls start chanting all the different names simultaneously. Chanyeol feels an urge to join in the screaming feast, and proclaim his love for Kai, but he suppresses his excitement, choosing to focus his camera on his beloved idol.
snap. snap. snap.
The sounds of shutters echo in his brain, and he can barely hear anything the other members say as he continuously snap photos of the most perfect man on earth (at least to him). Soon it is Kai's turn to speak, and Chanyeol feels a part of his heart melting as he hears the deep voice and rich laughter. His idol cheerfully waves at everyone in the crowd; a stark contrast from his moody self a few weeks ago. He looks around the crowd, and stops when he sees Chanyeol's camera, giving him a few seconds of eye contact through the lenses accompanied with a wide smile.
Chanyeol stops breathing momentarily as he basks in the knowledge that he is being acknowledged directly, despite it not being the first time. He snaps away furiously trying to capture that precious moment, and for the first time, Chanyeol lowers his camera before Kai looks away and attempts a small wave in his direction. A small smile is prevalent on Kai’s face, and he gives a small nod before turning to look at Kris who is making his speech.
To say that Chanyeol is excited will be an understatement as he squeaks loudly, and his large arms flail, hitting Baekhyun’s camera by accident. His best friend takes his revenge by hitting him on his arms multiple times before turning his attention back to the little vocalist called D.O. Those punches are painful, but nothing can dampen his mood at all, especially not when Kai decides to dance to their newest song impromptu.
His nerves come back at full force when he is going to get his signature after those five fans in front of him are done. Baekhyun's hands that are gripping his elbow tremble slightly, and it never ceases to amaze Chanyeol how nervous the two of them always feel even when they had been to at least 50 fansigns. He quickly turns the booklet to Suho's page, with him being the first member in line, and mumbles a few words of reassurance to Baekhyun.
He shuffles his expression into his award-winning smile and allows his feet to lead him to the first member.
"Hello there." Suho greets him warmly as he always does. "We didn't see you at the event yesterday, were you busy?" He asks casually as if the two of them are friends. Technically, they could have been friends, seeing how Chanyeol sees the members at least once a week, but he is just a fan and he knows that Suho is being kind.
"I had to finish my report or risk being failed." Chanyeol answers playfully, tension ebbing out of him as the conversation with Suho flows smoothly. The interactions with the next few members pass by in a flurry, and he can only remember enough to hold out his present as he stands in front of Kai.
"Jongin-ah," Chanyeol calls out his real name by accident and quickly shakes himself to correct his mistake. "No, I mean Kai. I thought that you will feel cold during winter, so I got these to keep you warm."
"You can call me Jongin if you want to." His favorite dancer beams at him, and goes through the paper bag. "Did you knit this yourself?" He asks curiously holding the gray scarf close to his face.
"Y-yeah." Chanyeol stammers; the little holes in the scarf looking exceptionally obvious in Kai's hands. He has spent the past few weeks hiding from Baekhyun's prying eyes (it proves to be difficult since they are roommates), so that he can knit in peace, and there is a surge of satisfaction mixed with embarrassment settling in his gut as the gift finally reaches its owner.
"Thank you," Kai wraps the scarf around his neck immediately and asks, "it looks good right?" His eyes completely disappear as he smiles his rare toothy grin, and Chanyeol can only nod trying to resist his urge to ruffle the younger boy's hair.
"By the way, what is that? Is that Monggu?" Kai points to the keychain dangling from his bag when he passes the booklet back. The fanboy nods in excitement and mortification that his idol manages to recognize his horrible artwork.
"Is that for me? Can I have it?" Jongin Kai asks eagerly with his hands stretched out.
Chanyeol gently unhooks the key chain and gently presses it into his palms.
"Jongin-ah," Chanyeol steels himself and uses the name he always call in private as Kai is playing with the key chain. "I'll always chase after you."
A blush spreads on Kai's face and he looks slightly embarrassed as he nods and waves his goodbye.
"How did it go?" Baekhyun prods him when he gets off the stage, "You were up there for damn long. D.O. didn't even talk to me for that long." A little pout appears on his face as he conveys his jealousy.
"Perfect." Chanyeol is unable to control the weird smile that is breaking out on his face. Maybe he will sew Janggu and Jangga next.
"That fanboy of yours is really cute." Luhan comments off-handedly when the five of them are in the van heading back home.
"Yeah, I know." Kai answers nonchalantly, unable to keep his hands of the Monggu key chain.
"I need a fanboy too. And he seems like a really good choice. Did you see his face? He's cute." Luhan teases playfully, pretending to be weighing his options seriously.
"I'll just wink at him at the next fansign, and he'll become my fan immediately." Kris declares and everyone in the van gags. "Don't underestimate the power of my wink."
"Hyung," Kai whines resentfully, "He's mine. Go find another one yourself."
A/N: cause, kaiyeol feels exploded after the showtime episodes. chanyeol's affection for jongin is so obvious that i feel bad for him. anw, hope yall enjoyed this. fansite!aus are surprisingly fun to write
