Untitled SeBaek

Author's Note:  This is old, like really old.  It was written sometime in November (I don't really remember).  It was inspired by a photo shoot EXO did last year that I'm too lazy to find.  If I ever get around to it, I'll edit this with the photo...maybe.

[Sehun glanced at his watch.]
Sehun glanced at his watch. 5:30 pm. Damnit.

He was late leaving the office today due to a last minute staff meeting. Someone had royally fucked up on their assignment, so they all had to pay the Piper. In this case, the Piper demanded payment in the form of a three hour lecture on the reasons why accuracy in their work was important. Normally Sehun wouldn’t bitch about staff meetings, even the lecturing kind, as it was a means of passing time until 5:00 when he could shut everything down and head home.

Sehun didn’t hate his job; in fact he actually quite enjoyed what he did. He just wished he could do it from home where he didn’t have to interact with people who were only interested in how you could help them move up the corporate ladder. But one of the first things Sehun had realized upon graduating college was that life isn’t always how you dreamed it would be.

Sehun was impatient to get home. Unfortunately for him is seemed like everyone just wanted to recap and complain about the meeting they had just been subjected to. So by the time he finally stepped outside the office it was 6:00pm.

Sehun stepped through his front door, huffing his bangs out of his eyes, while finally, finally, loosening his tie at exactly 7:06. All he wanted to do now was change into some more comfortable clothes, eat dinner, sit in front of the fireplace with a glass of wine, then go to bed.

But before all that, there was one thing he had to do first.

He found what he was looking for sprawled in a desk chair in the home office. His head was tilted back staring at the ceiling. Just the sight of him, released what tension remained in Sehun’s body from the stressful day at work.

“Hey.” Baekhyun said softly from across the room. “How was your day? You seemed stressed when you came in.”

Sehun laughed at this. “How do you know I was stressed? I haven’t even said anything to you yet.”
“This is the first you’ve even seen me all day. Seeing as you were dead to the world this morning when I left for work.”

“I could tell from your footsteps. You are usually pretty light on your feet, walking quickly, and hardly making any noise. When you’re stressed you walk a lot slower and heavier.”

This was one of the many things that Sehun loved about Baekhyun. How many people could tell the state of their partner’s emotions just from how they walked? How many people would even pay attention to how their partner walked let alone recognize that there was a difference? But Baekhyun could. And Baekhyun did.

“Also you coming home an hour later than usual is a pretty good indicator.” Baekhyun said with a grin.

“One of the people at work screwed up on a major account today. It’s going to cost the company millions to correct the problem.” Sehun said in a sigh. “After everything the customer decided to take their business elsewhere, which lost the company even more millions in future revenue.” “The rest of us were subjected to a three hour ass reaming, I mean staff meeting.”

Not wanting to think about work anymore, Sehun gave his love a once over. “How was your day? What time did you even wake up? Judging by the state of your bed head I’d say it was only a few hours ago,” Sehun teased.

Baekhyun usually ended up working strange hours. He was a writer, so he was slave to his muse. Sometimes inspiration would hit during daylight hours, but more often than not it was in the wee hours between 1:00 and 3:00 am. When this happened Sehun knew that he would most likely find Baekhyun still writing by the time his alarm went off the at 6:00 next morning.

“So far pretty unproductive” Baekhyun groaned, silently glaring at the sheets of paper thrown around the room. “I know what I want to happen in my head.” Taping his temple Baekhyun said, “Its there, its perfect. But for some reason I just can’t put it down on paper.” Baekhyun pulled at his hair, growling, “ugh!”

“Come on, you should take a break. We’ll cook dinner and relax.” In a whisper, “maybe take a bath together.” Then you can start again. By then you’ll probably know exactly how to translate what you see into words.” Sehun gently pulled Baekhyun up from his chair, rubbing his shoulders to massage the tension away.

Once the couple reached the kitchen Sehun pushed Baekhyun down to take a seat at the bar. “What would you like for dinner? I’ll make whatever you want.”

“How about breakfast? You make the best breakfast, and I did just wake up.” Baekhyun smiled lopsidedly in chagrin.

“Breakfast it is then!”

As Sehun went about preparing everything for their meal he began teasing Baekhyun. “So when are you going to join the modern world and start writing on a computer? You can’t keep using your old typewriter. Or heaven forbid you go back to pen and paper for that matter.”

This is an old conversation between the two, Sehun teasing Baekhyun about being a technophobe. When they first started dating it took Sehun six months to convince Baekhyun to even just play around on the typewriter he is using now. Baekhyun always arguing that computers weren’t reliable.

“Those things will eat my work. I would be dependant on my work being stored on little microchip thingies that can crash or stop working or just delete what I have written at any time! I’d be in a constant state of panic and worry about whether it would be there the next day! No thank you. With pen and paper, and even with the typewriter, I have tangible evidence of my product in my hand.”

Sehun didn’t bother pointing out that Baekhyun could have the same tangible proof with a computer simply by printing it out on the printer. Sehun really liked this quirk about Baekhyun, and he knew Baekhyun wouldn’t listen to him anyway.

After eating, glass of wine in hand, the two moved to the living room to snuggle on the couch in front of the fireplace. Even though it was the middle of summer and it was nowhere near close to cold outside, they enjoyed starting a fire and just being near one another. Listening to the music of the wood crackling and popping.

When the two were comfortable and starting to unwind Baekhyun voiced a thought that had been niggling at the back of his mind. “I should have been the one doing everything tonight. You’re the one who had such a rough day. I should have been the one to pamper you with dinner and a back massage.”

“I’m sorry.”

At this, Sehun tallied another mark in the “reasons why I love Byun Baekhyun” column he mentally kept. Baekhyun was always trying to take care of him and spoil him, insisting he didn’t do enough for the younger, never realizing what he did just by being a part of Sehun’s life. “I enjoy cooking for you, you know that. And I think that we both had a bad day, and since you’ve already helped me, cooking for you is the least I can do.”

“But I haven’t done anything. All I did was start complaining about my lack of writing,” Baekhyun protested.

Sehun twisted his upper body so that he could look at Baekhyun. His face was serious when he started pouring out his heart. “Baby, just being in your presence lightens the heaviest load I’ll ever carry. I know it sounds cheesy and corny but it’s the truth. The way your smile lights up your whole face whenever you see me, the way you smell of fresh laundry and peppermints. Everything you are is everything I’ll ever need.”

Baekhyun had tears in his eyes, “you’re so greasy, but I love you anyway.” He leaned his body up to gently capture Sehun’s lips with his own. It wasn’t a passionate kiss, but one filled with love and promise of a life filled with many more beautiful moments to come.

That night as Sehun was holding Baekhyun in his arms he thought about his day and his life as it had been so far. He knew his life wasn’t perfect. He had experienced his share of hard knocks, let downs, and disappointments. He also knew that his and Baekhyun’s relationship wasn’t perfect. They had their stupid fights and disagreements. But as long as they were both willing to work for it and continued to love one another they would be able to weather anything that came their way.

“I love you.”
