Willow by the Water

Someone walks along a beach
And as they walk they drop a seed
Attempts to grab but beyond reach
And then they pay no heed.

This seed will grow against all odds
Into a young sapling
Despite the sand and lack of sods
Became a good strong tree.

Many people passed it by
Refused to stop and see
Didn’t bother asking why
Such an oddity came to be.

Others would look at its might
Admire its strong will
They they’d abandon the sight
And descend that hill.

Still the tree would grow and grow
Defying all the sand
And while past the people row
It absorbed the land.

Tall and strong this tree grew
It filled up all the space
Turned the water a green hue
All around its base.

Yet people still ignored this tree
Despite its tall demeanor
They would not take the time to see
The tree in all its grandeur.

And so it came to be that the
Tree would be looked past
Even its originality
Was through a mistake cast.

The tree sat there for many years
Overlooked, ignored
Yet someone came that shed some tears
Once they saw the damage bored.

The majestic tree had grown
Stronger than the rest
Yet through the sand the roots had shown
Ignored nature’s test.

Unsupported, the great fall
This tree was no exception
In fact, because the tree was tall
Its support held deception.

By the time the people came
To realize the tree’s might
It was too late to see the same
Everlasting sight.

The roots would grow into the void
Would pass the nutrients
Therefore it could not avoid
The end of sustenance.

The tree would slowly start to die
Its health would go away
Its branches would give one last sigh
And start their long decay.

Even when demise was new
Betrayal by the land
The water then had started to
Wash away the sand.

This tree’s small support would then
Begin to disappear
Yet there can be no regrets
When the end is near.

The tree had lived a happy life
Growing by the sea
It wasn’t bothered by such trife
As ceasing to be.

It overlooked a pretty bay
And was not sad to go
It knew the price it had to pay
By refusing to be low.

Without support, the tree fell
Its hunger would not sate
Soon, its matter’d start to sell
It to the earth at a fast rate.

A person walked along a beach
And saw there on the land
A seed they thought came from their peach
They covered it with sand.
