Here are some pros and cons of the colleges I'm considering:
Seattle University:
pros: academic scholarship
financial aid guaranteed for all four years
honors program invitation
high rankings and positive reviews from friends of friends of friends
close to nature once out of the city
cons: most expensive even after aid
in a big city
only general biology
far from friends
sounds kind of boring =/
NO LONGER UNDER CONSIDERATION; REMOVED FROM LIST
UCI
pros:second cheapest
close to friends
cool honors program and minority program
nice campus
familiarity
basically everything
cons:too research-oriented
not a single positive review of academic experience =/
too many pre-meds clogging up the bio program
TENTATIVELY NO LONGER UNDER CONSIDERATION; REMOVED FROM LIST UNDER THE BASIS OF HAVING EVERYTHING IN THE PACKAGE BUT ACADEMICS :[
University of New Hampshire at Durham
pros: awesome program
study abroad program specifically made for New Zealand
pretty campus
honors program invitation
merit-based scholarship
cons: no backup plan (no creative writing program at all)
still have not gotten a financial aid package
unfamiliar with school and website doesn't help
far from friends
UC Davis:
pros: absolutely love the campus and surrounding town
great animal programs
potential Alyssa in a year
pretty good financial aid package
basically everything
a day's trip away from friends
cons: none?
NO LONGER UNDER CONSIDERATION; ELIMINATED FROM LIST IN FAVOR OF GRADUATE STUDIES HERE
WANT TO ATTEND TO GET MASTERS OR PHD IN ANIMAL BEHAVIOR (OR MAYBE DVM)
Vassar College:
pros: pretty good selection of programs
rave reviews, not a single negative comment about it from anyone questioned
pretty campus
small school with small classes (9:1 student/faculty ratio)
study abroad programs, financial aid usable
most affordable to attend due to biggest scholarship
no core curriculum and thus easier to double major
prestigious enough to aid my future application to graduate school or whatever job I end up with
cons: far from friends
unfamiliar
Guys, I'm leaning towards Vassar...frightening, exhilarating, terrifying, exciting, and I hope I can decide 100% soon for some piece if mind. I'm still considering UNH but I need to know total aid package, and UCI/D are stil;l there if I end up freaking out about going so far from home(friends). Any opinions, input, questions, comments, concerns?
