Idle hands, it has been said, are the devil's workshop, and an idly curious mind must be even more so. To this end, Elizabeth has recently taken it into her head to explore the so-called Mansion from top to bottom. Behind that door is a normal-looking (to Lizzy, anyway) man who looks up from whatever he's doing when she enters.

"All too true, sir," she says with a small laugh. "One may, as I have found out this morning, open seven doors and discover nothing but dust and cobwebs, and then open an eighth to be confronted with dozens of hissing, frightening serpents."
