how to make your very own edible miracle

for people who might be trapped indoors because of bad weather, who have run out of chocolate: (it HAPPENS. i don't know how, but apparently it does...)

these measurements are... they're guestimates, okay? i found a recipe that had good reviews and it's based on that, but it uses a LOT more butter (100 grams) and doesn't have coconut in the actual mix, which i really like, so i added that.

this is a 'one bowl, two hands' type recipe. using a mixer doesn't really work well. which is why people usually get their kids to do it back home. lmao.

1.5 cup oatmeal
0.5 cup sugar
3 tbsp dark cocoa
0.25 cup dessicated coconut
2 tbsp butter/margarine
a few drops of almond essence/extract if you have it (i have used rum essence in the past, which works just as well, but you can do without either in a pinch. it just adds a bit of oompf.)
coffee
0.5 cup dessicated coconut to roll the balls in.

mix dry ingredients and add butter. keep mixing until butter is distributed evenly. add essence and coffee - a spoonful at a time, until everything sticks together. it should be wet enough that you can roll balls of it in coconut and it'll stick, but not so wet that you can't shape the balls. the more you mix it, the "wetter" everything gets, so don't add too much all at once.
make little balls (whatever size you prefer, i get lazy and i have a weird thing about biting into something before i put it in my mouth, so mine are fairly big, but most people like them bite-sized) and roll them in coconut.
store in fridge.
(they're better when they're cold, but you can totally eat them right away if you're impatient.)

here's a pic i totally stole from some random on the internet and cropped, just to give you an idea of the colour and texture of the things, before you cover them in coconut:

ENJOY! (that's, like, an order.)

ps. there's a LOT of "that's what she said" potential in this post. please ignore that and focus on the mouthgasm that's coming up.

here's a post you can eat
