R.I.P. Merlin

to Merlin, a loyal friend and partner.
i dont know where to start. i mean, how can i start to talk about the life of this horse. it would be an injustice to try to put his life on paper, because his life is incredible than can ever be put on paper. he was a hero. not only to me, but man other children in new hampshire. where ever he may be now, if horses go to heavan,- for he had a huge soul, and heart. and was good.
below are just a few quotes about him, and horses in general. every quote pertains to him in some way.

The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life.
--Robert Louis Stevenson

Some athletes don't care what kind of shoes they wear, or how many fans they have. They don't even care that they're on television from coast to coast. They just want to run.
--Unknown

A horse gallops with his lungs,
Perseveres with his heart,
And wins with his character.
~Tesio

The wind of heaven is that which blows between a horse's ears.
~ Arabian proverb

There's nothing better for the soul of a man than the outside of a horse...
~Ronald Reagen

Has thou given the horse strength? Hast thou clothed his neck with thunder? Canst thou make him afraid
as a grasshopper? The glory of his nostrils is terrible. He paweth in the valley, and rejoiceth in his strength: he goeth on to meet the armed men. He mocketh at fear, and is not affrighted; neither turneth he back from the sword. The quiver rattleth against him, the glittering spear and the shield. He swalloweth the ground with fierceness and rage: neither believeth he that it is the sound of the trumpet. He saith among the trumpets, Ha ha; and he smelleth the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.
~Job 39:19-25

Merlin, for those who don't know, was a horse, but not just any horse. He was amazing.

I remember riding him, the littlest horse in the barn-the only grey. he was teh definition of a push-button horse. pull on the reins, he knew what you wanted., say canter, and be ready for the choppiest canter of your life. With his high stepping front legs, this little arabian was children's favorites. if you lost your ballence, he knew, and slowed down so you could regain it. not a fan of jumping, but willing to try,. he gave it his all every hour. i became too tall to ride this little guy, so others took my place., but i managed to ride him in a show once or twice. we won., of course. since he was a grey, he was prone to cancer, but he never had it. he had tumers, on his body and foot, but nothing stopped him. he taught many to trust- not only a horse, but themselves. there is so much more i could say about him. he was kind, loyal, sincere, honest, gentle, trustworthy, trusting, amazing,.. and just plain good.

his last few months we quiet., he suffered an unknown injury that left him lame, he was only ridden lightly from then on. Who would have thought that he would collic inthe night. Laurie brought him to Rodchester, where only surgery would save his old life. he was put down. he was about 20 years old.

it is the quality, not the quantity of life that matters.

sadie will miss you.

he will be sorely missed, and never forgotten
We all love you.
