snowpocalypse approaches

Everyone in these parts has been freaking out over the impending storm that's coming our way. It's all anyone's been talking about for a couple of days. I haven't been too worried, mainly because I don't live far from the office, and I have plenty of food in the house. Our office is closing at 11 tomorrow, but since I have a 5-minute commute I don't feel like it would be a wasted trip. Several people who live farther away have taken the morning off, and some are complaining that "they don't care about us" because they're making us come in. Well, nobody's making anyone do anything, and the forecast is for the snow not to start in earnest until late afternoon. I'm not getting all worked up over this. The only thing I did differently than I would have otherwise is to buy some propane canisters in case we lose power, so I can cook on my camp stove and run my lantern for heat if I have to. But I'm not too worried. They've been wrong before. Actually, I think they've been wrong more often than they've been right. I think they're making a big deal out of it because a) that's what they do, everything is sensationalized these days, and 2) everyone was caught off-guard 35 years ago in the Blizzard of '78, and they don't want to repeat that. Which is why everyone rushes to the store and buys bread & milk whenever there's even a hint of snow in the forecast.

I have a whole list of things I can do while the storm rages, and it could even be fun. As long as we don't lose power.

Good luck to everyone in the area! I hope everyone gets home safely tomorrow.

snowpocalypse, blizzard, snow, snowzilla
