I love fireworks!

I'm really sorry to hear about the camera. At the risk of being annoying for stating the bleeding obvious, have you tried googling for advice on your particular make/model? My old camera had a similar error and I found several people blogging really details instructions on how to fix it yourself. (In the end I didn't do that and sent it away to be repaired.)

It did! Thank you! I found a Nikon forum which suggested, amongst other things, "smacking it moderately on the back." I did, and turned it on, and the lens extended and retracted! Yippeeeeeee!

Taking it out for a test run later. :)

I should have thought of that, but I panicked, was tired, and my brain is full of camp prep. Thank goodness for friends who point out the obvious! :)
