getting there, still

I realize it's been a while since I posted an update on my simplify campaign, and you all must be on tenterhooks wondering how that is going. *g*

So, yeah, I kind of fell off the wagon a bit for a while. I was maintaining, but not really making any progress. I can blame it on stress/ anxiety/ what-have-you, but the fact is I wasn't continuing with the momentum I had built up, and that wasn't good.

I kept intending to drag my old futon out to the dumpster, but never did because it was raining/ dark/ I had something better to do. And I'm glad I didn't get around to it, because last weekend when I was feeling lousy I cleaned out the last bit of clutter where the shelves had been, took everything off the futon (which was sitting on top of my cedar chest) and started using it as a couch. It was nice to have a place to stretch out and veg while watching TV, which was pretty much all I had the energy for last Saturday night.

I also bagged up all the stuff in the 'things to be thrown out' pile and took it out to the dumpster. Then I started on the kitchen, cleaning up all the bottles I keep meaning to return (I put them in the recycling for someone else to return) and consolidating all the stuff that was sitting under the table waiting to be dealt with. Wow, I have a kitchen floor now! Considering how small my kitchen is, that is no small feat.

I had a kind of breakthrough, revelation, or something last week. I had been living in a sort of limbo, letting myself get overwhelmed by all the things life has been throwing at me for the past few months. In one moment, however, I decided that I was through letting life push me around like that, and I was taking charge. I am just dealing with things one at a time, and getting it done. Moving on to the next thing now. No sense sitting around in fear, waiting for the next disaster to strike. Attitude is everything.

And so far, that's working for me.
