The last day of my vacation was an absolutely gorgeous one. The high winds were gone, the sun was out, and it was warm enough for fleece and a vest rather than a coat. I went for a very long walk through Stanley Park and the wildlife sanctuary, and enjoyed the fresh air and sunshine.

First of all, it's nearly December, and there are still roses blooming.

At the edge of the park, this shrub was also still blooming.

Entering the woods, there were a few bright spots amongst the bareness.

This one has a faery mound. Can you see it?

The river was quiet and still in many places.

I found a branch that had broken off, covered with this cool fungi. It was nice to be able to photograph it from all angles without getting down on my hands and knees. *g*

I wandered out beyond the sanctuary and into the neutral zone between the woods and the farmland.

I headed back to the woods, and as I looked back, I noticed another person at the edge of the field. He was carrying something that I couldn't identify, and it occurred to me that it's hunting season, so I quickly scooted out of there.

None of the pix I took in the faery woods would upload, not surprisingly. As I rushed through to the secret path, I heard what could have been a Pileated woodpecker, or the fae laughing at me, or perhaps both. I also heard the crack of gunshot, so I was glad to be safely away.

Going back through the park, I passed the clan of domestic ducks taking an afternoon nap.

My DSL was slow again today, and iPhoto was being uncooperative with some of the pix, so I'll upload the rest of them tomorrow. I also took a video at the river that I'll upload tomorrow. I sure do hope that I win that new computer on Facebook! This one is just frustrating.

I'm glad my week off ended with nice weather. They're expecting rain for tomorrow. At least it's not snow!
