Originally uploaded by Lizzie~Belle. Wow, suddenly it's November. How did that happen? As I was walking around the park this morning, I was thinking that I was just here taking pictures of spring flowers and plants, and now there are leaves all over the ground and the plants are brown. I felt the bittersweet melancholy of fall, as the land goes to sleep for the winter. A bold squirrel looked at me expectantly, then bounded off when he figured out that I didn't have any treats for him. I passed a small hollow lined with pine needles, and I imagined curling up in it, covered in fallen leaves and needles, becoming part of the earth, sleeping until it was time to rise again in the spring.
The spirits of the earth are busy: flitting about, chasing leaves in the breeze, having a bit of fun in this darkening season. Perhaps they are dancing with the ancestors in this time of thinning veils.
