Some days the job crushes me under its foot, and some days I come out smelling like a rose. Fortunately, today is one of the latter.
It started out to be one of the former; since they laid off our third person, Kim & I have to enter all the network ads, which is a pain in the patootie. I emailed my boss, asking if perhaps the sales support folks (who are now telemarketing) could do them instead. After some back-and-forth, it was no go.
However. My boss just came out and told me that they would be paying us commission on the checks they get from the networks. It's not much, and it's only twice a year, but at least they're making an effort on our behalf. That was nice.
Then she said that they'd like for me to do one particular network, because they're very particular and ask for a lot of audits. That was a compliment, because it means that they know I do a good job.
As we were finishing up, my phone rang. It was a customer I've been playing phone and email tag with for weeks, trying to get him into our B2B magazine. There's a contest, and everyone has to get new customers in order for anyone to win. I was determined not to be the only one who didn't get a sale; I really didn't want the rest of the sales team to be mad at me. Well, he finally said yes! After I hung up, I let out a "woo hoo!" and startled poor Carolyn. Then I called my boss and let her know.
Things might be a bit strained around here, and I am still grossly underpaid, but at least they know (and acknowledge) that I'm good at my job. :)
