this 'n' that

I've been watching some of the Live Earth concert in between loads of laundry today, and I wonder if anyone has thought about the vast amount of power that must be needed to put on so many shows all over the world. Are they doing anything about offsetting all that carbon? Hmmmmm? I didn't see anything about it on any of the preachy spots in between acts, but I did notice an awful lot of lights and monitors during the Duran Duran portion. Did *you* plant a tree, Simon? Donating money to a company that will do it for you isn't enough. I also wonder how much trash will be left by all those concertgoers, and how many bottles of water will be consumed during the shows. On the one hand, I'm glad that they're getting attention for the cause; but on the other hand, how much of what they're doing is contributing to the problem? Admittedly, I haven't seen much of the show, but I do hope that they ask people to contribute in concrete and non-monetary ways. Like by having recycling bins everywhere.

*gets off soapbox*

'Tis a lovely day out there today, and probably the last non-muggy one for a while, so as soon as this laundry's put away, I'd better get out there and enjoy it.

I've also been rereading Harry Potter 6 in anticipation of the new (and last *sob*) release later this month. I'm guessing that there will be a mass field trip from camp the day of the release. I'm sure plenty of people will be having Amazon deliver it there as well. I love it when the UPS truck shows up! I'm sure they love it, too. We've heard that they take turns going there. Once they found out about all the naked hippies, I'm sure there were fights over who got to go! *g*

I think it would be fun if we all go see the movie, too. Maybe if there's a rainy afternoon, we can do a matinée. Although getting a bunch of Pagans to do anything, especially at a festival, is truly like herding cats. They might make an exception for Harry Potter, though.

Speaking of Live Earth, I spotted David Tennant in the audience at Wembley. I managed to catch the premiere of Doctor Who last night, and I have to say that the stories were both pretty bad, but the dialogue was great.

Ooh, and for locals: they're showing the Loreena McKennitt show on the Springfield PBS station tonight at 8:00. Woo hoo! It's about time.
