I have a goal in life: to be one of those people who can say the right thing at the right time. I am not currently one of those people.
My co-worker found out that his dad had died unexpectedly at home this morning and he had to leave suddenly: Very dramatic. But a few hours later he came back...they had to wait until the Medical Examiner got there to remove his dad from the kitchen and David did NOT want to be there, so he came back to work to "get his things". Anyway, this is one of those moments where you wish you had the ability to figure out something to say that is simultaniously comforting, sensitive, not cliche, pointing to God, and expressing concern. All I really had the inspiration for was a hug. Luckily, my amazing coworker Holly was there and she is one of those people who always know what to say. So, as I was going to and from the backroom, holly was sharing the perfect words of wisdom/comfort and I was thinking, "Man, I wish I would have thought of saying that". Anyway, in situations both dramatic and non-dramatic, I'm genearlly thinking "I should say something here but I have no idea what to say." I would someday like to replace that.
