So it turns out the economy is in this thing called a "recession"...apparently sometimes during these phenomena there are things called "layoffs"... Anyway, apparently we are not immune. No reason to hit the panic button quite yet, but there were definite threats of lay offs in John's department...and due to the experience-based ranking system, the Housers may be on the chopping block. Yikes. Not that it would be the end of the world, there's always White Sands Missile Range, a comparitvely cooler place to program, but still... It's a bit uncomfy. I suppose we are not the first family in the Rio to face the threat of unemployment, and there are others in the church who were actually very out of work for a very long time...perhaps God thinks it's good for your character or something. Nonetheless, the prayer is that we will not experience the wonderful world of unemployment.
Interestingly, even Starbucks is feeling the pinch. Hours have been cut drastically, benefits have been cut a bit too. I'm honestly growing a bit worn out from trying to operate the store constantly understaffed. And we are scheduled to have some sort of nationwide "Emergency Meeting" next Friday. We'll see what happens...
